Proper Technique for Replacing M41 bolt pin
I replaced the extractor and extractor spring in my M41the other week. I don’t think it had ever been apart as I had to use a punch and some pretty good whacks from a hammer to get the bolt pin out. This caused the dimpled end to be misshapen and it would not go back in the slide. I had to file and sand that end to get it back in and it seemed fairly tight. It now backs out the left side while shooting. I have a new one ordered and want to know if there’s anything special about putting it in and out safely.
Apparently the advice from S&W is to put a little bend into the pin.
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks! I can do that. Will that make it difficult to remove and replace in the future?

Staking the end like this is a time honored approach and if done on just one side, is straightforward to remove.
