Highest density of Bullseye
Which State (or maybe a more specific area) has the largest number of Bullseye competitors and highest frequency of matches?

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
Well it sure isn't Missouri. We only have 2 locations that hold matches and this past year one of those cancelled all matches for the year. Hope 2021 is better!

CMP and NRA both have competition trackers, on-line. While you may not be able to get a precise count during the epidemic, you can get some sort of sense of which states have a high population of competitions

NEW JERSEY!!!
No, I'm not kidding. In normal times I can shoot 2 to 3 matches per month, year round, and participate in 2 leagues without driving very far. The NJ state championship is one of the largest matches in the country and the junior program is top notch. We usually put up 3 teams at Perry and, I think, 2 junior teams.
AND no earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, wild-fires or mudslides.
AND the suburbs are safe & quiet.
AND New York City is 40 minutes from my door.

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
Mike,
I must respectfully disagree. Hands down, it's Pennsylvania (the Eastern part). I can shoot all New Jersey matches, and the Pennsylvania matches, and not be subject to the firearms restrictions imposed onto New Jersey residents! (And I am sooooooooo glad that I have finally escaped from New York City).
Kidding aside, the NJ/Eastern PA area is home to an extraordinary number of matches and a great many Bullseye competitors, including some of the best in the country.
We have this luxury in no small measure due to the awe-inspiring work done by Mary Badiak in organizing the matches, nurturing the NJ junior team and creating and maintaining the NJPistol.com site.
Regards,
Oleg.

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
Well, I really do not know where the highest density of bullseye shooters are but within a hour of me I have matches:
Sunday night wintertime
Monday night wintertime
Tuesday afternoon wintertime
Wednesday morning summer time
Thursday evening wintertime
Thursday evening summertime
Friday morning summertime
Friday afternoon Summertime.
In Spring and Fall these overlap a bit.
I am usually busy doing something else on the weekend but there are lots available Saturday and Sunday too.
Some people might think this is a lot of shooting but those guys down in Ohio, They are Nuts! They shoot all the time!
Regards,
Crankster

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
It's slowed down a little, but when I was stationed in DC, I was shooting two 2700s almost every weekend from May to August, at least one per month the rest of the year, and a league on Monday (600), Wednesday (1800), Saturday (1800) for most of the year, all within about one hour travel time. These were in three places in Maryland, three in Virginia and in the late '80's, I was even shooting a lunch time league (300) in DC proper. By adding a little extra time to my travels, I included Pennsylvania and Delaware, for a couple more.
When I've traveled back to the area in more recent times (excepting 2020), I was shooting leagues on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday (all 1800s) and at least two 2700s within a short stay.

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
Ohio typically has 4-5 matches a month in the summer time, not counting the big ones. I can shoot a match a weekend (sometimes two if I so wish). 3-4 clubs hold matches in the winter as well. I know of at least 5 leagues across the state, and I probably am missing a few. It is not a bad place to be as far as the bullseye world is concerned.

Ohio and Texas seem to have good programs. Lots of matches to be had. Texas has outdoor matches all year it appears. Also, when I lived near Charlotte NC it was possible to shoot every weekend within a two hour drive.

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
In Iowa I get two 1800s per month in the four winter months, one is 3hrs and 10 mins, the other 3hrs 25 mins. Iowa doesn't have the bullseye shooters it used to, even PPC is less, more action shooting.

Re: Highest density of Bullseye
I presume these schedules in Pa and NJ are pre covid, as I am not able to find much now.
Where is a good site for seeing the events listed.
Thanks

for the matches in the North-East. Click on the Match Calendar in the left panel. Obviously, December is slow and January is the off month. Picking up again in February and sectionals and NJ Indoor championship will be coming in March. April marks the start of the outdoor season
