S&W 52-2 mag issues
I was lucky enough to get four S&W mags with the 52-2 i recently purchased.
I didn't realize how lucky until i looked on E-bay and saw them for $325 each!
Anyway, i have found when i press the slide release if I don't push up on the bottom
of the mag, sometimes the round fails to chamber. I will try and purchase a mag
release button and the small "KEY" that enters the mag to hold it in place.
There is slop there and if a little larger key is needed I will make one in the shop.
I'm wondering if this condition has been found in other 52s?
I did polish the feed ramps (both)and have tried larger roll crimps but the condition
is still there. I have larger hands and my little finger contacts the mag and this too can cause a failure to feed.
I am thinking a set of Dick Horton grips and in the plans for this fine pistol.

I also have big hands and had to solve the "getting the mag all the way in to feed" problem. I added bumpers to a pair of mags. Since the bottom plates come all the way off it is actually pretty easy to do. Model 39 bottom plates will also fit so you can use/drill them if you don't want to mess up the bottom of your 52 mags. It was nice with standard grips. Needed when I switched to Nills.

The Early mags have the metal follower, and the later ones had the plastic follower, I never liked the plastic follower magazines, same goes for the model 41s. You will see the plastic follower does not fit so snug and can be moved side to side instead of putting pressure where its needed on the slide stop.

Len,
Where did you get the bumpers?
Are these the ones? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1006093088?pid=196246
And it looks like Model 39 mags are hard to come by as well....
Thanks,
Val
