What are your thoughts. 380acp 1911 ultra match
Fusion is making a bunch of new barrels with interesting twists. I'm talking about 9mm, 38 Super or 380 acp in 1:10. They also come in your choice of ramps. I don't know where you would find magazines but the 380 sounds like fun. The 9mm with that twist would probably make my 115gr lswc a tack driver. Same for the super. Choices choices choices. I have two of their barrels already and was satisfied with their performance. My problem is figuring out which one to play with.

how much of a drop in velocity and potential increase in wind drift for using a smaller capacity case and a smaller weight bullet in comparison to a 9x19 or 38 Super barrel out to 50 yards?
But yes, the post definitely intrigued me into visiting their website and also Browning's website as they have already developed a line of 380ACP chambered 1911s.

If those browning 1911's are like the one I shot, they are about 3/4 scale and blowback action. The most miserable thing I have ever shot.
It was one of those "here, try this" deals at the range.

Hello LenV,
Fusion has made/sold .380ACP barrels previously. I have only heard poor reviews....if you can get them to run (a big if) they produce wash-tub size groups. Things may be different now; let us know if you are going to experiment.

Jim, I think I am going to experiment but I won't be going with the 380. I am about a twitch away from ordering a Ultra Match barrel in 38 Super with the threaded end. I have a lot of Super ammo loaded with Magnus 130gr and 147gr lead bullets. Maybe that fast twist, half inch longer barrel and recoil suppressor is the magic combo. I don't really need a 5th barrel for my 2 Supers but what the heck.

Hello LenV,
A much better choice. Have fun....I would be curious as to your results.

I have been mostly reading this forum, thinking about bullseye. That said, I saw this post and decided it was time to register and comment.DA/SA wrote:If those browning 1911's are like the one I shot, they are about 3/4 scale and blowback action. The most miserable thing I have ever shot.

I have a Browning 1911-380 and no, it is not blowback. It gets a bit confusing because RIA and Llama both also make 1911 based 380 pistols that are blowback. However, on close examination, it is clear that the Browning is very different from the other two.
To add to the confusion, the Browning 1911-22 is blowback and it uses the same lower assembly as the 1911-380.
I purchased a Browning 1911-380 and a 1911-22 complete slide assembly, which allows for cheaper practice. You can see the Hi-Power style delay cutout on the 380 barrel. On the 22 barrel, that is just a round hole for the slide release to go through.
I do realize that this pistol is a bit of an odd one in the firearms world.
. . . all that said, this is not the pistol I plan to use for bullseye.

Re: What are your thoughts. 380acp 1911 ultra match
Just thinking about the three cartridges; 380, 9mm & 38S, I feel like based on my limited knowledge of reloading the three of them that 38 Super is the best cartridge because it has proven it can be downloaded and still be accurate. I don’t care for 9mm because it’s a pain to reload; need new brass for 50 yds and can’t really drive them slow.
So my WAG is that going to 380 is the wrong direction because of case volume being smaller. But I have no real factual information that would support my theory other than my observations.
So Len I say go for it so you can fill us all in!

How about converting one of these 380's to 32 ACP blowback?

The way to go is a 1911/22 conversion modified for 32acp. In fact Nelson made a prototype but couldn't justify the tooling expense which is a bummer. I would buy one in a second even if they cost $1k or something.Olde Pilot wrote:How about converting one of these 380's to 32 ACP blowback?

The early Llama's had a locked breech. A friend of a friend had one, very slick little pistol. I tried to talk him out of it ...
Knowing him, he probably pawned it at some point down the road.
