Wolf .22 Ammunition
I have never used Wolf ammunition before. Somebody just asked me if Wolf was made by SK? Can someone let me know whether that is true or not and their thoughts on the quality of the ammunition?

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
It was made in the same plant as SK...as is some of the current Lapua 22LR.

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
Older Wolf was made by Lapua/SK. Newer stuff is made by Eley. The stuff made by Eley shoots well, have had good performance from the 'Match Target' line in both my 5" and 6" Nelson conversions.

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
I have shot a lot of the Match Target. Great ammo but does seem a little underpowered in my Kart conversions. It functions the Marvel units and Hi Standard just fine.

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
I used it back when it was made by sk and had good luck with it. The snot lube was a bit annoying, but accuracy and reliability were good in my kart. Cannot speak towards more recent production.

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
Thank you very much. Good to know. In my experience the majority of KART conversions have always been picky with softer shooting Ammunition, so I’m not surprised.

Jon, the older stuff, as with SK, used a very oily feeling lube. You had to wipe your hands every time you loaded a magazine. It shot well though. I have not tried the newer Eley loaded rounds.

Does the new stuff have an Eley head stamp? I remember the old stuff had the SK stamp.

And...that's why it worked so well. That, and SK bulk "Magazine"
Love it!

Yes, the new stuff has an Eley head stamp. Also comes in the same style boxes as Eley.zanemoseley wrote:Does the new stuff have an Eley head stamp? I remember the old stuff had the SK stamp.

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
I shot up cases of Wolf Match Target and Wolf Match Extra in Smallbore Prone club matches. The stuff I used had the SK head stamp and Champion Shooters claimed it was made by SK. I do not have the latest Wolf, as I have several cases of SK STD plus, which is the equivalent to Wolf Match Target.
However, I am of the opinion that this is rifle ammunition not pistol ammunition. My 2014 lot of SK STD Plus frequently has failures to fire, and failures to function, in my M41. My 2016 SK STD Plus does not. I did test the 2014 lot in my Ruger MKII and these are the chronograph results
Ruger Blued M512 MkII
Remington Target Rifle Match Std Velocity
15-Sep-16 T = 92 °F
Ave Vel = 947
Std Dev = 44
ES = 214.1
High = 1015
Low = 800.9
N = 32
One failure to fire, reinserted, fired fine.
SK Standard Plus lot 165 48/2 2682
15-Sep-16 T = 92 °F
Ave Vel = 889
Std Dev = 30
ES = 127.2
High = 942.6
Low = 815.4
N = 31
This lot and box of rounds had malfunctioned at MCGC in my S&W M41
All rounds functioned perfectly.
SK HV Hollowpoint lot 166 48/1 259-3
15-Sep-16 T = 92 °F
Ave Vel = 978
Std Dev = 37
ES = 166.9
High = 1059
Low = 892.8
N = 29
Winchester Super-X copper coated HV, purchased OTASCO 1978
18-Aug-18 T = 72 °F
Ave Vel = 957
Std Dev = 22
ES = 78.74
High = 989.2
Low = 910.5
N = 32
It is my opinion that the Ruger MKII has a more robust ignition system than a M41 and hits the rim with more energy. Therefore combustion of the powder in the case is more complete. Also, I believe the pressure curve of the rifle ammunition is not controlled, only the velocity and accuracy (more or less). SK makes a Pistol Match ammunition, I don't have any, but I will bet the Pistol Match has a pressure curve and primer sensitivity appropriate to blow back pistols. There fore buying Wolf Target, Extra Match, or SK STD PLUS, or Rifle Match is a gamble, as you may or may not have function issues in your pistol

Wolf is to small bore rifle what CCI is to pistol.

Re: Wolf .22 Ammunition
I went through cases of Wolf Match Target and SK Standard Plus in rifles and handguns when they sold for around $30 per brick, maybe 10 years ago now. Both were accurate and consistent with no notable issues. Then I began using SK Magazine which up until a few months ago was under $50 per brick delivered. I have gone through several cases of this in my Pardini with no issues and accuracy better than I can hold. I recently purchased 2 cases of Eley Bullseye X from Pardini at the recommendation of Vladimir and have had no problems. This cost me $64 per brick delivered which considering the current market, seems like a steal.
