Pistol Box Repair?
I have an older Pachmyr 3-Gun Pistol Box that is need of repair. Does anyone know of anywhere that I can have it recovered and buffed-it-up?
Also, I always found the lower profile gun box that held the guns across the forward portion of the box as opposed to the traditional slide-out tray intriguing and would be interested if anyone knew who made them or if they might still be available? I know Gil Herbard sold the box years ago but last I called them (a few days ago) they were busy depleting their current inventory and I did not fell right troubling them.
Thanks, PB

Try Larry's Guns. They have ones that you describe. I have one and really like it.

I think you might be better off just removing the old cover from the Pachmayr box, sanding it down and painting it with a pebble finish paint. If you are looking at wood gun boxes, you might want to check out: http://www.precisionpistolbox.com/ I have one of his and it is an extremely well-made product.

Good looking boxes, but his inventory is looking depleted.

Re: Pistol Box Repair?
This is from the Precision Pistol Box website:
Why are the boxes "Sold Out" so often?
We
are a small shop. When large orders come in, they tie us up for a week
or so, and then we play catch up with orders for folks that have
already paid for their box. I know that when I pay for something, I
want it pretty much then and there, not 2-3 weeks down the road.
It
is so much better for the customer to pay for a box and then get it, as
opposed to paying for it and then having to call every couple of
weeks....or longer, and ask, "When am I getting my box?"
If you
would like a particular box, call and ask to be put in line for the next
available 4-Gun or whatever model you would like. No money required.
When it's done, I'll call you. It usually takes about a week to get
your box done from scratch. If the money you set aside for the box has
since gone to refinish the cat or upgrade to a newer and faster wife (or
husband), I understand. Just tell me. No harm done. The only box I
want to have a deposit on is the 5-Gun.

If you strip all of the vinyl it's easy to take the interior dividers and tray guiding strips off, re-attach the tray guides at a height that would accommodate your guns with optics on them, then spray the rest with the finish of your choice. The fancier finishes with texture cover imperfections and is easier to touch up than something smooth.
