Hämmerli 208/215 magazine tuning
I just got a 215 with 1 magazine that has been flawless so far. I bought a new one from Red Feather and first round doesn’t fully chamber then usually the 3 round also doesn’t chamber. I’m told that filing the back of the magazine that engages the release is the key. Any insight would be greatly appreciated….

Front feed lip width/spacing is typically the issue. Rear release not an issue in my experience. Measure the width of good magazine vs new magazine and make them both identical. I made my own feed lip tool for bending them. All the ones out there are poorly made.

I made my tool from 1/4" square by 3' long stock and cut slot with hacksaw on the end and a slot about 1/8" from the end on opposite end. Then I rounded the corners, works great on High Standard magazines.Jon Eulette wrote:Front feed lip width/spacing is typically the issue. Rear release not an issue in my experience. Larry Carter instructed me to apply a small squeeze on the round at the 208 front feed lips. It worked to keep the round from popping up too much. This is the same as I learned to adjust HS mags from LTC Miller (who said he learned from Joe Benner)

Don't file the magazine. I had similar feeding issues with Red Feather's 208 magazine but it was one time easy fix with the tool that you use for High Standard mags. Just measure front lips width from the original magazine (good one) and apply the same on the new/bad one.
Another suggestion. Feed 5 rounds on both the original and new/bad magazine and see how the first round's nose sticks out from the original magazine. Do the same on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Adjust the front lips on the new/bad one until they point the same angle. I only fixed once and no noticeable issues for a long time.

@OP: The filing of the magazine is for mags that ride too high and cause the spent cases to eject off the left rear magazine lip instead of the ejector. High riding magazines don't affect feeding.

A three foot long magazine tool sounds unwieldy. ;-)chopper wrote:I made my tool from 1/4" square by 3' long stock and cut slot with hacksaw on the end and a slot about 1/8" from the end on opposite end. I cut the tool 3" long, forgot the shift button on keyboard. It would be very hard to be precise with that long of tool.

After much frustration I have 2 good mags. The final piece of the puzzle was the rear lips. Measured the good mag, tightened up the rear lips by .01”. 100% with 100 rounds today. Thank you all!
