1911 lug width
Hi Folks,
Wondering if anyone with a Mil-Spec 1911 (most of us) might measure the width of their barrel lug and pass it on? Have a slide that is seemingly tighter around the lug than it should be and the lug is hanging up. Want to make sure it is the slide and not the lug that is the problem.
Thank you!
Mike

If you mean the bottom barrel lug, the GI print calls for .362" +.000" -.004"
The upper lugs are .176" -.000" +.004"
The upper lugs are .176" -.000" +.004"

Re: 1911 lug width
I have never seen a barrel lug on any milspec pistol be an issue. From memory the bottom lug is approximately 0.365” wide. Take the barrel by itself and see if it will slide into the receiver with no issues.

If anything I would question the barrel link length. It has been common for people to put a longer link in to try and tighten up the barrel fit. This is also referred to as link lock up as opposed to lug lock up. When this is done in many cases you actually get binding because the link is actually too long for the transition over the slide stop pin.

I’m somewhat confused if the OP is referring to the upper lug(s) or lower lug.

Re: 1911 lug width
You are correct in that I was not more specific for which I apologize. The upper lug is what I was looking for. The slide that I have is .011" narrower than it is supposed to be based on above measured upper lugs.
Thanks one and all, I have what I need to progress!

Re: 1911 lug width
Typically the only critical dimension is from the breech face to the first slide lug (rear edge). Everything else there has quite a bit of clearance and not critical and will not interfere. Is this a match fit barrel?

Locking lugs, or the hood?
