NRA Hardball Matches 1911
Has the rules changed when it comes to the handgun used? Can a 9mm be used? I have a stainless steel Springfield Armory Range Officer with beaver grip and ambi safety. Can I use this for Hardball matches?

NRA doesn't appear to have any Service Pistol rules any longer. But, yes, they were different for a while.Danehogle wrote:NRA rules are different
Re: NRA Hardball Matches 1911
Although the NRA doesn’t have any “Hardball” or “Service Pistol” rules, they will approve/sanction it as a Special Tournament under rule 1.6 (j). AFAIK, the rules for such a match probably are decided by the match director and sent to the NRA to approve.

Did the NRA hold "ball" matches at their Champs?

Re: NRA Hardball Matches 1911
The NRA "ball" matches were typically shot at local events. The NRA "ball" matches had no relationship to the Distinguished Badge. It was more "for fun," and some training. Since the Distinguished program was from CMP and its predecessor organizations, "ball" matches at the major NRA Championships were/are conducted under the CMP Distinguished program.Colt711 wrote:Did the NRA hold "ball" matches at their Champs?

I understand the NRA/CMP relationship, just curious if there was a ball match @ NRA Champs.

I didn't catch who asked. Now, I'm understanding that you wanted to know about this year's Atterbury event. I'll go back to my corner now. . .
Re: NRA Hardball Matches 1911
They had distinguished revolver if you are counting that as a ball match but otherwise they did not. At the competitor meeting, it came up as a suggestion that they hold cmp sanctioned eic matches as a way to draw additional attendance so they may do that moving forward.Colt711 wrote:Did the NRA hold "ball" matches at their Champs?

Re: NRA Hardball Matches 1911
No "Ball" match at Atterbury, but several shooters at all of the events were shooting iron sights throughout. So it could be said that the NMC portion of the 45AGG match at all events was effectively a "ball" match for most of those metallic sight category shooters. I think that David Paquette was high gun in the 45 Metallic category at Atterbury - well done David.
As John D mentioned there was a DR match - and also a Harry Reeves Revolver match at Atterbury - Yay!, I love those HR matches. Hope that the CMP will follow Hendo's lead from Cardinal and introduce an "open" revolver match at Perry in future.

Re: NRA Hardball Matches 1911
Excellence in Competition matches were commonly referred to as "hardball" matches because of the type of ammo and a 1911 .45ACP pistol w/certain restrictions required. Now it appears metallic sights on the pistol are all that is required?!?
