Hello Bullseye shooters. I have been lurking here since about 2012. I finally decided to register because I wanted to thank you all for all of the knowledge I picked by checking this website on a regular basis. This is the friendliest, most knowledgeable group I have encountered. I like my shooting experience with no drama. A little about myself. I am 75 years old and live on a barrier beach island off the coast of Long Island, New Yorkistan. I shot small bore rifle on a high school rifle team and I learned to shoot pistol in the US Coast Guard. I served on a Coast Guard gunboat in the Mekong Delta area of South Vietnam, back in 1967.
I joined a local club about eight or nine years ago and they convinced me that the best way to learn Bullseye shooting was to enter a match. My very first match was a 2700. I shot a Ruger Mark III with CCI minimags and a light weight Colt Commander .45, with a 4” barrel and military ball ammo. Both with iron sights. It turns out later, that the Ruger had a broken follower and was spraying shots all over the target. I did OK with the aluminum frame .45 because I did not know any better. I did not finish last, but I was close. A Master shooter who was observing me, told me that I had the wrong guns, and the wrong ammo, but, at least I showed up and finished the match.
That is why I found me way here. I learned to reload, I learned about Dave Salyer who built my Range Officer that now shoots a ragged hole from sand bags, with my own reloads. I bought some items from Alex at Photo Escape, and I purchased items from other vendors that I found here. This week I found through this site, the Bullseye App for my smart ‘phone which I can Bluetooth to my hearing aids for practice. I have shot on a local center fire indoor bullseye team and a local center fire “Duello” team (International center fire?). I like to shoot my S&W model 14 revolver in Duello, and I can shoot it in precision. But, I have to work hard in rapid fire LOL. After the Covid range shutdowns we had here, I started shooting mostly for my own amusement. I enjoy reloading my own ammo, and I enjoy shooting my own homemade ammo accurately. I set out to become a Master shooter. I have become a pretty decent reloader, but my shooting skills are somewhat limited by my age and personal health. Again, I want to thank you people for showing me the way.
