CMP 2022 Rule Books
CMP released the latest editions of the rule books.
https://thecmp.org/cmp-2022-competition-rules-are-now-online/?fbclid=IwAR1QtgfkXr0hM40pV8uAKFDFL43hJuFiFxNl1SKYCHlEEwkfcHYJ9EemVok
Notable changes from a first glance, Service Revolver is now an EIC and is the President’s course of fire. Air matches also have their own rule book too.

Mostly because people won’t read the rules and will rely on 2nd or 3rd hand account of them.james r chapman wrote:Lots of explaining is going to be required!

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
Not true!
The rules are long, with many changes and create many questions.
So the revolver EIC is now basically the NRA ,but, allowing .45 and lead wadcutter bullets.
It’s also a 40 shot course!
Be careful about reading the EIC point rules without realizing they are specific to DISABLED shooters.
I’m betting the competitors will have a better understanding of the rules than the RSO’s and range personnel!

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
I have been to EIC matches were people wanted to shoot the match with improper equipment (bomar rib for service pistol, 22 with a dot, ect.). It has been my personal experience that the majority of competitors do not have a working knowledge of the rules.james r chapman wrote:Not true!

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
I'm sure that Jim knows plenty of competitors who are very knowledgeable about the Rules, but I also tend to agree with chiz1180 that there are loads who neither know nor care!
However, I must say that I don't really understand why the CMP have chosen to make the rules for Service Revolver quite a bit different from the NRA DR. I like the decision to open it to a wider variety of calibers and bullets (but only iron sights - unlike a Harry Reeves - my favourite), but to "KISS" for routine events (other than the Nationals, etc.) I would have thought that the NMC course of fire would be quite sufficient. Just sayin'.

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
No more 3.5# .45 trigger pull (Match pistol). All .45s are 4# now. Could catch a few unsuspecting folks, but not too tough to fix.
Also, single shot only air pistols, and a full breech to muzzle "flag" is required.
I have a Steyr LP 50 and I was told that it was legal for ISSF events if you use the single shot magazine. I think I'll ask the CMP about this one. Also not sure how I'm going to feed some orange line down the muzzle and have it turn right or left at the breech end.

Are you allowed to replace springs?

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
I believe the 4# rule for service revolver is an error. I'm sure that will be corrected shortly. The idea behind "service revolver" was to copy DR but open it up to basically any caliber/bullet style, making it easier for people to compete.

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
Based on conversations in the FB groups 45cal revolvers need to have a 4lb single action trigger.

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
OK, let's make the rules simpler, so that we can attract a wider spectrum of shooters.
Hmmm, seems like so many sets of rules (laws) that get drafted by committee's, they start out with good intentions and then get so convoluted that they become impractical to follow, legislate or enforce. Ho hum.

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
Update per CMP (Jim Henderson)
Just an update to this.
The corrections have been addressed.
Just so everyone is clear the rules will read;
CF Match Gun 1911s will be 3.5lbs regardless of caliber. .22 conversions are 2.5lbs.
Service Revolvers regardless of caliber are 2.5lbs, except a .45 will be 4.0lbs.

Re: CMP 2022 Rule Books
Mystifying.....
When it comes to trigger weights, why on earth change to new weights which, particularly for revolvers, might be difficult or even impossible to easily achieve?
