I still haven’t found the killer load for this one but I’m not in a hurry either.

Will you be able to thumb with those grips, are they Herrets? You'll do well.

Are the clamp on type mounts any good?

I’ve been dry firing it some. The grips will work fine for the crazy single action shooting I do 😂

The “base” is an old weaver base. It uses a screw that goes through the base and into the hole that the rear sight used. The front is a crescent sort of ring that is screwed to the base. When the screw is secure it pulls on the crescent piece firming it all up. It’ll be for low powered .38 Special ammunition so I don’t fear any issues with it coming loose. A base screwed directly to the frame with two or three screws would probably be better but this was a way I could do it without needing to drill any extra holes. It’s an old outdated base. The rings are stock ultradot. If this thing shoots okay, I may upgrade the rings. The base is my worry at the moment. Even with good Ammo I and suspicious of the base lending itself to good accuracy. Time will tell..

I used that type of Weaver clamp-on base on my K38's for years. It worked perfect for 148 HBWC target loads.

I finally got over my "collectors squeamish-ness" and had the frame drilled and tapped for the standard (on later models) 3 hole pattern under the rear sight. This allowed me to use the simpler type of later bases. There was no improvement in accuracy or reliability though.
