Lawyer in the Winston-Salem area
Need Help,
Does anyone know of a good 2A lawyer in or around Forsyth county (Winston-Salem) N.C.?
I am trying to have some firearms (Bullseye Pistols) returned to me that were stolen when I was traveling through Winston-Salem area awhile back. Because I live out of state, I am being told the best way to get them back is to have a lawyer help me.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Please PM me.
Neil

Re: Lawyer in the Winston-Salem area
I know of no lawyers, but from experience I would suggest you contact a local FFL/dealer for their input. Trusting that the court/police are able to release them, it may only need a letter from you as owner, (May have to provide proof of ownership) directing the local FFL/dealer to acquire them on your behalf. That FFL/dealer may then be able to transfer directly back to you or to a dealer/FFL in where you live. (Depends on state laws for pistol acquisition).
I have done this a number of times in NYS. Rather tedious effort but result is getting the firearms returned to owner. (In NYS all pistols are licensed by serial number on permit, so proof of ownership is easy to provide when requested)
Good luck.

That was my experience. The only way I knew the gun had been recovered was my insurer calling to see if I wanted it back.bruce martindale wrote:Unless the insurance company now has ownership...

Who has the guns now? Police? Why not just call them? I don’t think you need a lawyer.
In NC for interstate transfer, you need them to deliver the guns to an FFL to do a transfer and that FFL will ship them to an FFL near you.

Re: Lawyer in the Winston-Salem area
Thanks everyone for your input.
I didn't want to go into a lot of details openly on the forum and tie up discussions with opinions and suggestions other then if there is a Lawyer that I could contact in Forsyth county.
Just to clear up a few things I will add.
1.The police do have my firearms in evidence
2. They do have a good procedure that is easy and allows me to get my firearms back even though I am out of state. No FFL is required.
3. The evidence department has been very friendly and helpful.
4. Because I am out of state, they recommended that I contact a a lawyer to assist me in getting the court documents processed

Re: Lawyer in the Winston-Salem area
It's amazing that in a country where guns are legalized they can be stolen! I'd probably give up all hope of getting it back and buy a new one. You might even benefit from the help of the Military defense lawyer if guns are involved. But what I find very confusing about your situation is the theft itself, did you store the gun correctly? I prefer to use a safe - it`s the most secure way. I don`t agree with the statement that it`s sufficient to hide the gun in a place inaccessible to the household and invisible to guests, invited or not. The owner is personally responsible for his or her combat self-defense weapon, and if it`s stolen, it means it hasn`t been sufficiently cared for.

I don't think you need a lawyer. The gun is in whose possession now?? I think all you need is just a prove of ownership of the gun and maybe a lil help from your FFL to help in transferring it back..
