1911 Slide Mount Rail
Who makes slide mount rails for 1911? I've found only Eulette and Clark, are there others? Do any of them allow sight use without removing the rail?

Rock River does sell a "combo" rail with sights and slots, buts it's damn heavy. If you throw a slide on there, you basically have to shoot jacketed ammo. Maybe not an issue.

Yeah, the 'standard' rails. A couple slots for rings, and holes spaced to match the old Bomar ribs. Pffff.....
I made my own. Irons stay in place ... but you have to pull the rail off to use them. But if you've only got one gun ... which I did ...

Re: 1911 Slide Mount Rail
Sorry, let me rephrase...
You can shoot lead with the combo rail and a scope, but I had to load up to 4.4 WST behind a 185 LHPSWC to get it to cycle with an aimpoint H1 with Shue shades. The RRA combo rail is significantly heavier than their standard rail (which is what Wobbley shows). I'm happy to measure the weight of both rails in the morning.
Anyway, I think Jon Eulette has modified his rail in the past to allow the front sight and rear sight to stay in place. You'd probably need a taller rear and front to make that work, though.

Are the RRA rails tapered front to back? Something that I read makes me think the Clark rail has taper to better align with the barrel.

Re: 1911 Slide Mount Rail
If you buy the typical Weaver base it's not tapered. Most gunsmiths will taper a Weaver base if the use it. In addition it is very important that the radius cut in the base be the same as the radius of the slide. I make my own and use 7075 Aluminum, the strongest aluminum available!
As to being able to use the irons sights with the scope base it will depend on the iron sight height. Older Bomar that fit in the dovetail was quite high as is many of the others available. A low scope base can be made but those that are quite low as in the Gold Cup I doubt if a base can be made to use iron sights without removing the base.
