Hammerli 208/215 weight info
Been a while since I worked on Hammerlis, My son has my 208. I think someplace I have a weight but don't know where! Adam has a 215 with a Knapp or maybe Larry's Guns mount. There is no marking on the scope base to indicate who made it. It is as the Knapp uses the barrel weight to attach the mount to the pistol. Adam wants to lower the weight and asked me to make the weight made from Aluminum. Does the Hammerli weight have any other tapped holes other than the hole for the set screw to spread the dovetail to lock the weight on the barrel? I seem to remember there were plates that could be attached to the sides of the dovetailed weight if more weight was required.
The Knapp look alike mount uses 4 screws to attach the aluminum weaver base to the weight, I'm wondering if the holes were already in the weight or was the weight modified.

Up-Date, Since what I have found the screws used to hold the mount to the weight is 6-40 but they seem to be the undercut profile type because the head diameter is only.260". But McMaster only has them up to 3/16" in length. I talked to Adam, he said if necessary re-cut the countersink so I'll be using 6-32 X 3/8" (Better thread pitch for Aluminum) Then if he wants to return to the steel weight we simply have to change the screws to standard flat head 6-40 X 3/8"

If you want better threads in aluminum use a helicoil. You can’t make the rated load of the fastener without a helicoil in aluminum. Whether the design has the extra diameter to accept the helicoil is another matter….

I use 7075 T6 Aluminum that is one of the strongest and hardest available. Being the scope mount is Aluminum too I don't think the use of Helicoils is necessary. Also found head size slightly smaller than listed by McMaster so I didn't countersink the scope base. Item completed and on the way to Adam, he will test it and if changes are needed I'll make another weight
