Fiber optic front sight Empty Fiber optic front sight

Post by knightimac 7/16/2022, 5:19 am

Good morning.

I know fiber optics front sights are seldom used in precision pistol.

I’ve been trying them in practice with some limited success on my backup Ruger 22/45 MKIii and a Kimber 45.  While I don’t shoot them as well as my red dot sight guns, I can and do shoot them better than my traditional iron sight pistols.

Anybody else try these or use these?

In relation to your current classification, one might shoot "better" at this time with fiber optic sights.  But if someone wants to move up in class significantly; I'd suggest getting very familiar with the standard post front sight.  Check out what others are using on the line and just think about why that is so.

They may work better for you if you can’t focus on the front sight and use the dot on the front sight as a focus point.  But then you have to have a fiber optic rear sight and then build a 3 dot image for sight alignment.  Much harder to do.  And very easy to line up the wrong part of the front sight with the wrong part of the rear sight.

Fiber optic sights are for speed, not precision.

Thanks for replies. I’m using thin red fiber optic on front and black rear sights. So far so good. A friend of mine tried them recently as a test and shot some nice 50 yard slow fires.

I’ll keep experimenting since I’m seeing positive results.
