1950’s Shooting Medals Empty 1950’s Shooting Medals

Post by ChuckS1 8/17/2022, 5:57 pm

My dad (see my avatar) was an active bullseye shooter in the late 1950’s.  Most of his shooting was as a member of the Fort Holabird Pistol Team.  Anyway, I have the medals he won and, sad to say, they aren’t of any interest to my kids.  So, rather than to see them end up at some garage sale after I go, I was wondering if any one here might know of any club or other organization that might have an interest.  I wrote to the NRA Museum months ago and haven’t gotten a response.  The medals are in my avatar picture, but can provide detailed pictures if needed.

What I would do, is re-purpose them.  If it’s a plaque or trophy take the personalization off and put a new plate on them for new personalization.  Then donate them to a junior program.  Juniors seem to like physical awards rather than bragging rights or cash.  So send them to a junior club.

I have several medals and other awards from my coach and mentor LTC Arnold Miller.  Some of them I am in the process of making small plaques like this from 1950s parts for display at our club.

I plan another of all gold colored featuring all three guns.
Coach was our club founder in 1965.  Very few of us are left in the club that go back that far.  He served WWII to 1963.  Was a SAFS Instructor and taught me much that he learned from Joe Benner.

Many newer shooters would love to win an old badge
