50-Yard .38 Spl Loads w/ H&G 73?
Even though my Dad said he never *quite* got the accuracy out of this mould that he wanted, I'm interested in giving it a go. Besides, it shot groups half the size of certain well-known plated bullets in some .357 trials a few years ago (2" at 25 vs. 4").
My main interest is loads with W-W 231, since that is pretty much my standard and almost only non-Magnum powder these days. But even though it's not associated with low-recoil revolver loads, I'd be willing to use Alliant Power Pistol as well.
For some other purposes, I got into Unique again, and tried Herco, but didn't really settle on the desired dual uses I was after with them (decent semiauto loads AND Magnum enough loads in .357--was trying to get away from W-W 296 and mostly from Magnum primers).
So, anyone have experiences with this bullet? The load I'm after must hold at least a bit tighter than the 10-ring at 50. I really want to use one load for both long and short lines.
Thanks!

Interesting bullet shape on that mold. Ive not seen one like that. No advice on a load for you though. If I couldn't find any listed, I would start researching loads for similar weight bullets, and do some testing.

2.8 gr Bullseye just keeps showing up.
With a charge weight that small and good loads in .45 too, maybe I'll just roll over and add another powder to my shelf again.
Maybe.
IIRC, in some calibers, max Bullseye loads are almost as high velocity as the "slow" powder loads.

This brings back some very good memories. Back in the 70's, when I was just starting to shoot bullseye, my father and I went to Winter Haven, FL for a pistol match. We were in awe of Lucy. As expected, she won the match.james r chapman wrote:Lucy's winning ways

GOM, I load 2.8 bullseye and 3.0 WW231 interchangeably under a 148 gr hbwc. I would assume it would be equivalent with that bullet. being cast I'd figure in the mid 600's for fps...
Also, make sure that bullet is sized to fit your cylinder throats!

Just had a promising test with 5.1 or so of Power Pistol. I'm out of 231 now, and 4.5 gr of that is not holding that tight right now with this bullet.
Off to chrono next, and get two more 5-round groups. I like accuracy testing with a red dot sight...
