Lead loads for Metallic
I have enjoyed shooting metallic and plan to shoot dots sparingly. I have had a hard time finding metallic loads for lead bullets. There's only one in the pet loads sticky. Anyone have any they'd like to share? I would like to use N310, but I have BE on hand too.

Found the link in the pet loads section to older loads. Now I need a translator for the various bullet designs. Anyone have a one stop shop for that?

A lot of optic / “heavy slide” shooters use 4.0-4.2 Bullseye. When I shot metallic only I could get reliable functioning with 3.5-3.6. So if your optics gun runs at “X.X” then just drop the charge by .4 to .5 grains and go from there.

I use a 200 gr swc with 3.9 clays for 50 yards and a 185 gr wcbn with 3.7 gr bullseye for 25 yards. Both of these are lead bullets. The 200 gr is a typical semi-wad cutter design while the. 185 gr is called a wad cutter button nose which is a bullet with a stubby nose. I like those because I can tell the difference at a glance so I know which load is which in my hand.
These are the same loads I used when I shot a slide mounted dot, my current wad gun which has a bomar rib and I used these loads with my hardball gun during my pursuit of my distinguished medal. The ball gun just has the sights on the slide of course but it has a stronger spring.
I do not know what spring my slide mounted gun has but the newer wad gun has a 14 lbs in it. The hardball gun would have whatever Rock River uses when they build them (18 lbs I think).
I would find a load that is accurate in your gun and change springs if you have trouble with functioning.
Good luck.

I shoot Missouri coated 155gr swc with 4.3gr of N310, crimped to 0.465" (+/-) in my Gold Cup wad gun with a slide mounted Matchdot. Like wobbley said, you should be able to tone that down a few 1/10s, depending on your mainspring and recoil springs.

Re: Lead loads for Metallic
I would recommend not going lower than 3.7gr BE 185/200 lswc for the long line with 16 twist barrel. Below that requires a lot more from you the shooter to shoot it well. It gets unforgiving. On short line you can shoot loads that are lighter and are functioning reliably with no problems.

Thank you for the info. I am thinking of a 200gr SWC for LL in the 3.5-4.0gr range, whatever shoots best. Then a 185gr SWC in the 3.2-3.7gr range depending on function.

Exactly the same loads as for my wad guns with dots. 3.85 gr VV 310, 200 gr lswc for 50 yards, 180 to 185 gr lswc at 25 yards. Find the best OAL / seating depth for 200gr at 50 yards. Seat to the same depth for both weights using shoulder seating stem for your 25 yd / 180/ 185 loads. Makes things simpler. Actual OAL will be whatever works well for your gun and specific bullet, try 1.25 to start.
