160 gr RN 45 ACP Empty 160 gr RN 45 ACP

Post by Boxturtle 11/21/2022, 12:47 pm

Does anyone have experience shooting 160 gr RN bullets in the 45 ACP 1911 on the short line?  How did it work out?  What spring weight and powder charge worked?

Thanks, Tom

RN as in round nose ( by whom?) or is that the brand?

160 gr Brazos lke 4-4.2 BE and my gun has a 10# spring.

The S242 H&G design non coated can get away with 3.9

They are a nice low recoil bullet. 4.2 has muzzle flash.

160gn roundnose? You sure it's not a RNFP (round nose flat point)? I don't think I've ever seen a legit 160gn LRN in .45ACP.

I have lots and lots of experience with 160gn/165gn LSWC (flat base) at 25 yards, as do many others. Load those up and shoot them until your arm falls off or you break 2690, whichever comes first.

I bought a mold from Accurate Molds. It is a 160g. mold but my cast bullets with lube weigh out at 168g. It is patterned after the H&G 242S. (RNFP)
I load with 4.5g. of Bullseye powder. ONE THING I HAD TO DO FOR ACCURACY WAS TAPER CRIMP TO .465". I crimp my 200LSWC at .469-.470.
This load shoots 1 3/4" at 50y. out of a Ransom Rest.
