Matchdot 2 rear shade questio
So I have a nice rear shade with silver border on my Matchdot 1 that I was looking to transplant to the Matchdot 2. It does not fit onto the rear of MD 2. It fits on the front, but not the rear. Am I just not catching the threading, or are the MD 2 rear shades different size than the front? Thanks.

There are different thread sizes & patterns and there are multiple combinations between front and rear depending on manufacture date. Check with Alex (PhotoEscape) on this forum. He makes conversion rings along with aperture kits and shades and can help you figure out what you need.

Is the shades threads too big or too small for the dot body?

The really, really annoying thing about UD 30mm dots are the several different threads they use - it can drive you crazy when trying to fit extension tubes and/or apertures, etc.
Tripscape, I have a box full of adapter rings, etc., which I would happily let you rummage through, sadly I am "across the sea and far, far away" till the spring.

Re: Matchdot 2 rear shade questio
I've bought rings from Alex at Photoscape. And I've made shades that have a tight slip fit over the OD of shades for myself and other shooters on my Southbend lathe. They had different brands and an older brand that shades weren't threaded, so mounting on OD worked. Recoil of a .22 doesn't make them move. On a CF you might need to use a Loctite product if you find it moving.
I used scrap PVC round ends bought off eBay or different plastic pipes/conduits from HD. This allowed us to try different colors too.
I've found that shades also keep the Red Dots lens cleaner from smoke and dirt at the range.

MD 1 rear shade is just a tiny bit too big for MD 2 rear and perfect for MD 2 front.NukeMMC wrote:Is the shades threads too big or too small for the dot body?

I am 100% indoor and using shades to keep the lens clean + had nice outline that helped centering. I mean I would not go out of the way to obtain one, it just seems weird that they changed configuration for no good reason.

Tripscape, is a 2nd ring on the Match dot 1 could be only .250" long. Usually they send the short ring in the box or it could be on the dot already. They can look like they are part of the scope or your existing shade.
