Athlon Aries 10-45x65 spotting scope
Thinking about buying a Athlon Aires 10-45x65 spotting scope for bullseye matches. I think the spec says they are 12 inches Long. Any of you guys own one and wondering what you think of it ?
Also wondering if a 12 inch long spotting scope would be to long for most pistol shooting boxes if I go that route ? Thanks. Marty

For that price point I would look at the 11-33x50mm Vortex Razor spotting scope, I love mine. Much more established company than Athlon, amazing warranty, sturdy build and fits well in a box. $699 on Optics Planet but you can probably find a 10% coupon.

Agree on the vortex. I’ve had its big brother for around 13 years. It’s been with me through a lot of matches and hunts. Had to send it back to Vortex a couple years ago for a loose eye mount. I needed it asap for nationals at Camp Perry, they did a 2 day rush job and overnighted it to an Ohio NG member friend so it would be waiting for me They completely rebuilt it, cleaned, purged and even replaced the neoprene scope cover. And I personally believe the quality is on par if not better than Kowa and Swaro. I just ordered the 11-33x50 angled about 13 hrs ago. Had similar experience with Leupold and Nightforce for warranty. If you’re a first responder or mil/veteran, or work in the firearm industry or are an instructor check out ExpertVoice.com. They have Vortex products there

You can get a Kowa TS-501-20x with 45 eyepiece from CMP E-Store for $294 shipped, very nice scope for pistol boxes.

Tangeant…. Thanks for the tip. It’s a lot cheaper price than the vortex. Thanks. Marty

Question re Kowa TS-501. Does the mount rotate around the body? Photos that I've seen suggest that it is fixed?

Back when I was a much younger man, the straight through, 20 power. Bushnell scope from Gil Hebard was all I needed. Even at 50 yards.
Now, 40 some years later, i'm using a TS-501. It works great at 25 yards. Lightweight, short, angled, pretty clear view. Even the clearest scope gets jumbled from bench vibrations.
I can usually find .22 holes at 50 yards in all kinds of light, but sometimes, even after walking up to the target, i can't find a hole or two.

Started off with the Vortex Razor 11-33x50, added a small manfrotto ball mount, but wanted something smaller and lighter. Optical quality was excellent and still is my #1 quality spotter for a tripod, small/light for what it does.
Replaced with a Champion Choice 10-30x50, it's more compact/lighter and has a body that can rotate in is mount which keeps things smaller. Optical quality is serviceable and can almost see all my. 22 hits at 50yds.
