Red dot for SW 41 Empty Red dot for SW 41

Post by L. Boscoe 5/1/2023, 1:05 am

I find the Aimpoint 9000 pretty heavy on my new 41.  Does anyone make a reflex red dot that mounts
to a pica tinny?  Looks like a few for shotguns and rifles, dunno if they would work or no?
I do have an Ultradot, which is about 150grams lower weight than the Aimpoint, but iron sights are a no go
for  me with only one eye that works acceptably.

I have used a Leopold Delta Point Pro on my Performance Center Model 41. Attached to the rib and very light weight. I switched back to irons because I did not want to put the time getting used to an optic. Occasionally I would loose the dot when I first raised the gun. With practice it got better, but I was inpatient.

I have a Vortex Venom 3moa dot. Had it on my 45 for a while but use an ultradot now. PM if you're interested.

Ultradot  L/T.  is very light and works well.  I also use the Leupold Delta Point Pro slightly larger window/view

Suggestion - 1" Ultradot tube sight.
I can post a photo if you want to see it on my 41.

I use a Sightron tube sight on my 41 and have been happy with it.  No negative magnification like some matchdots

I use the much lighter Vortex Venom dot on my 208.  Reflex type is a bit harder to find the dot initially but you get used to it and so far no problems.

That it has no negative magnification is a nice improvement over Ultradot.
I've gotten to where I prefer 1" sights over 30mm.
I think 5 MOA is larger than I want.

If you're not concerned with cost, the Aimpoint H-2 might be a perfect choice.
If I ever replace the Ultradot on my own Model 41, the replacement will likely be Vortex Venom.

Lots of choices - size, weight, diameter, reflex vs tube, cost, and whether changing either elevation or windage setting has an effect on the other setting.
Also ruggedness, if being used on a 45, unless you maybe get something like the steel replacement base from KC.

I have an U/D Matchdot II on my 41, but all my other BE guns gave a smaller dot.  I’d give the Sig Romeo 5 a try.  They are relatively inexpensive but about as robust as a tank.  If you zero it correctly, your 41 should hold the ten ring from 25 to 50 without adjustment.  I learned this by doing 22LR ballistics.  A good 22 like a 41 has a group potential of about .5 to .75 inches at 25 yards.  So if you zero your pistol at 40 yards (!) your group at 25 will be centered on the top of the printed “X” on the B8 target and at 50 it will be centered “mid X-ring” just below center.  Once you get to Master, you might consider adjusting your zero for the ranges.

The Sightron 5 MOA dot is smaller than the Ultradot 4 MOA dot. More like an Ultradot 2 MOA dot in viewed size.
