I just bought a Rock standard FS 9mm 1911
Breaking into some centerfire action in Bullseye
I need some input on a rear adjustable sight for this gun

Oh Lordy, that pistol will require an act of God to be a bullseye pistol. Have built one and won’t touch another one.
Good Luck!

Re: Adjustable rear sight
My recollection is that Rock Island got high praise because they were the closest to the WWII design you could get, which is great for collectors, but does not speak to accuracy.

Re: Adjustable rear sight
Perhaps a solution to the problem is to get it “accu-railed and a barrel fitted along with a set of sights. It may not be an ”all-up-romping’-stompin’l bullseye pistol, but it would be enough to get going.

Wobbly, I'm sure your advice is well intended, but, IMHO, for a Rock Island Armory (and, even worse, a 9mm), I would say that trying to upgrade it would just be throwing good money after bad!
Sorry.

Re: Adjustable rear sight
This pistol started life as a basic Rock GI Standard .45.
I had a local smith cut a Novak front dovetail and install a Dawson Precision 0.330” patridge sight. The rear sight is a Kensight compact adjustable that fits in the GI dovetail. No drilling or tapping needed. I fit that myself.
If you have the “Standard” version with the Novak-like rear sight, not a GI sight, LPA makes an adjustable rear. I think it’s only sold with a fiber optic front sight in a bundle, but it could be used with the standard black front.
Most of the advice you’re getting here is correct. Upgrading a Rock Island to be “minimally capable” for bullseye is, at the very least, throwing another Rock Island’s worth of cash at the project (or more) to end up with a pistol that costs more than a used Range Officer. It’s fun for a project, but not a practical solution.

Already answered.
RIA makes two “standard” gun lines, one that’s a GI pattern and one that has a Novak-style rear sight.
GI-pattern: the Kensight I mentioned. You will need a taller front sight.
Novak-style: the LPA I mentioned (sold in the black rear, fiber front set), using the factory front sight.

Re: Adjustable rear sight
I have had Doug Jones added to the FFL list at shipmygun.com when I had my S&W Series E railed, the slide to frame fit was just about as loose as you could get, now it's nice a tight! Amazing work for the $Wobbley wrote:Perhaps a solution to the problem is to get it “accu-railed and a barrel fitted along with a set of sights.
