CZ / Dan Wesson pistols
In a topic about rust blueing CZ / Dan Wesson pistol manual was mentioned. So as not to discuss another topic I ask my question here. Adam has sent me photo of a CZ / Dan Wesson 1911 in 9mm. Asked what I thought, not much since I've never seen one! So I'm asking here about the CZ / Dan Wesson 1911 in 9mm and 45acp as well as other pistols they make. The 9mm info Adam sent has a list price slightly under $2,000, quite expensive for a production out of the box gun but then again it's made I assume overseas as quite a few top shooting .22s are.
So any information about CZ / Dan Wesson pistols is of interest to me as I will forward it to Adam.

Re: CZ / Dan Wesson pistols
I have a Valor and a Vigil, both in .45. They are very well fitted, with zero MIM parts. Both have stainless slides coated with some type of armory coat, but they are black in color, not blue. Both, even though in .45, are fitted with ramped, supported barrels. I have no idea why, but contrary to all the negative internet assurances of .45s and ramped barrels being incompatible and jam makers, mine have never had a feed or extraction issue.
Compared to the Colts, Les Baer, Brown and others I have owned, the Wessons are at the top.
As far as I know, they have been sourced and manufactured in the U.S. since day 1.
Other than this rambling, I could answer any questions directed my way.

Frank,
I have DW Specialist, a range buddy has DW Valor. Both stainless and 9mm. Except for the way peripherals are situated (visual and functional differences such as rail and ambi safety) they are fitted exactly the same. Metal work is exceptional. Fitment is precise and very tight. You can turn bushing without a wrench, but it is still very tight on there. Zero functional problems. Both pistols put rounds where you point them. This forum is so much into super tight tolerances, but maybe for my skill level I find that grouping is great. When I mean great - as you zero the pistol you land 2 shots in basically same hole at 25 yards. I am a big fitment snob and DW foes not disappoint at all. All parts are mated as they are supposed to be. Only thing to note is thumb safely is a bit further back than my hand web likes, so mine was slightly relieved. MSH is tight fitted and well blended. Tail safety the same. Thumb safety clicks pronounced and perfect. Trigger a bit of slack but better than many guns out there. As mentioned zero MIM parts and all parts are quality with no tooling marks (well maybe nicely hidden by matte finish). Zero play on the barrel despite bushing able to turn by hand. No complaints at about 1500 paid. Note black variants used to be melonite treated and so clp would eat up the finish. Back few years ago you could find lots of them listed with finish marked ip by cbemicals. I believe they went to cera treatment now to alleviate these issues. When compared to a Colt at the same price the Colt feels like...ughh I won't even compare. DW is outstanding product at great value. Don't hesitate to get one.

I can't speak to DW; however, have several CZ pistols - 75B, 85B (I'm a leftie), Rami and SP-01. They aren't BE guns out of the box and mine aren't used for that purpose; however, for service level pistols they are very accurate and well fitted/made. Two of the fellows with LA Silhouette Club do shoot CZs in the BE match there with excellent results. One of them has a SP-01 and a 97 that have been accurized.

I had a DW point man 7 that I was shooting in CMP matches before the rules changed that now allow a lot more guns. With our 230 ball load it was grouping just under 3" @ 50 yards. After the rule changes, I sold the DW but there are times I wished I had kept it. It was a very good 1911.

Had DW Pointman 9. Wish I still did.
If you talk to people that own them, not one would tell you they'd never have another one. Including myself.

Re: CZ / Dan Wesson pistols
I have five Wessons. A PM9, SSC .40, Valor .45, and two customs I had them make in black with special slide cuts, triggers, grips, and other finish options and special fitting. One was in .45 and one was in .40. They are all incredible pistols for what they cost, tightly fitted, and expertly machined and all very accurate. There custom ordering options were somewhat limited in nature but very reasonable, basically just the cost of machining, finishing, and custom parts in addition to the base model you wanted it based off of. My two customs were based off the Silverback model at the time that was selling in the $1600 range and the customs were about $2100 ea.

Dan Wesson makes great 1911’s for the price . I own a pm-9 and a bobtail commander valor in 45 that is my cool weather EDC for 7 years (j frame in 32 h&r for sweaty temps.)

Hi Texasref, I just joined the forum and also 1st time owner of a new DW Valor 45 ACP that I bought 2 weeks ago and already looking at another one, 9mm Guardian. How did you like the Pointman 9 as this one is a serious consideration as well.Texasref wrote:Had DW Pointman 9. Wish I still did.

Sorry for the late reply.
I loved mine. They are tight fit and will need to be shot cleaned oiled and shot some more.
Like I said wish I still had mine. They are solid pistols that need no work out of the box.
Good luck with your Valor. It will be what you expect for sure.

I shoot a DW PM 7-45. I absolutely love this gun. I had it tested, from the factory, Atlanta Arms 45acp, 3.5" at 50yds. After some fantastic work, she shoots 1.5" at 50yds now. I can no longer blame the gun for undesired shots. 100% would buy again, if I was in the market, I'd feel comfortable buying a PM-9 as well.

I shot a Pointman 7 for quite some time in Bullseye competition with a grip mount. It is great pistol, the grip mount sucks.
