Hot deal on HK VP40-B
I'm usually not one to buy striker fired pistols but this is a hell of a deal on a German made pistol, was just over $380, they don't collect tax in TN and no CC or shipping fees.

Also looks like H&K has a promo I found through Bud's gun shop that should work on top of this already great deal. You get a $200 credit for their web store with purchase.

Great deal. I imagine that .40 S&W caliber pistols languish in gun shops nationwide. I don't know why, really. A quick search of .40 S&W ammo shows that there is a plethora of .40 S&W ammo available for around $13.50/ box! I may have to stock up on some of that for my rarely fired Beretta 96D!

Kind of funny to me, tons of people acted like 10mm was the best thing to come out since sliced bread, meanwhile its just a slightly longer .40 S&W, just something new. I've already got (5) 9mm pistols so figured wouldn't hurt to have a 40.

The 10mm Auto is not new…..it was introduced back in 1983, and adopted by the FBI in 1989. The 40 S&W was not developed till 1990 as the FBI agents could not handle the 10 Auto or the large guns needed to chamber it. So they shortened to case to 40SW so it could fit into 9mm frame pistols. 10 Auto is a great cartridge and I still have a SW 1006 and SW 610.

2nd'ing Tony that 40 Smith & Wesson and Winchester (.40s&w) is newer than and a derivative of 10mm. A few years ago all the FN 40cals also were on a fire sale for ~$380 too. The cartridge was once the darling of law enforcement but now mostly replaced with the 9mm, from feds to locals. For the folks who take exception like some SWAT it's still often 10mm but otherwise highest capacity=9mm. I bet for most of us though it's still .45 Nothing wrong with 40s&w, but it's not the fashion anymore and good opportunity as witnessed for a deal. Expect a deal as it's on the wrong side of the hype cycle.

I was told that 40S&W (and 38Super) is popular in some countries (e.g. Mexico?) because the local laws prohibit legal ownership of calibers used by their military/police (9mm).

I don't know about today, in the past, that was true in South American countries, you could not have .45 acp hence the 9mm civilian versions and derivativesRoyDean wrote:I was told that 40S&W (and 38Super) is popular in some countries (e.g. Mexico?) because the local laws prohibit legal ownership of calibers used by their military/police (9mm).

I've got a Browning HP in 40. Loaded up some ammo 'from the book'. Out at a big rifle match, one of our club members an FBI agent. Borrowed some of my ammo for his issue pistol.
Came back ... "what do have these loaded with?"
Just middle of the range from the book.
"H'y xxxx, I've never shot anything but the bureau ammo. I had no idea this is that powerful.'
I just laughed ...
