Modern off the shelf 1911 for Bullseye.
First topic message reminder :
What would you pick as a base pistol for building a Bullseye pistol?
I'm not talking about scouring the interwebs for an out of production gun (Springfield RO).. not talking about spending $4K at Les Baer.. just walk (or drive ) to the LGS and picking up a new gun.
Savage? Kimber? Springfield Garrison? Rock Island?
Thanks

No love for Les Baer? My Premiere II was $2260 ( on sale) from Champion's choice and I like it a lot - more than my bro's Nighthawk or Ed Brown. I like it even more after Mr Eulette performed some magic on the trigger

Allgoodhits makes a valid point. But, I think that, except for the Springfield Armory products, most folks playing this game seriously and recently would not bother with any of the other brands. Either low quality or over priced.
Lots of different opinions about current production Les Baer. My personal experience was not great.
I suggested TISAS because they are at bottom of the price market and seem to be potentially good for upgrading as and when OP chooses. Besides SA, or, as suggested by others, buy best components and have them built up to perfection.
The next best option is Rock River Arms.
IMHO.
I admit that I currently own both SA, RRA and TISAS. As well as several full custom builds. I sold on several Kimbers, SIG's, LB and assorted others.
Ho hum. YMMV

My next "project" gun will definitely be a Tisas Duty model. Don't want to mess with a GI grip safety. Probably a donor for a Nelson conversion.

Best bang for the buck, IMO.

A “built” gun for Bullseye wadgun. Virtually in unfired condition.

Springfield Loaded Target.
And here's why:
I'm Wisconsin State Indoor Champion with this gun.
I'm P100 with this gun
I'm 38 points towards Distinguished with this gun.
That being said, equipment is the last thing to focus on.
If the gun can hold 4", the biggest hurdle to excellence is self-doubt. This sport is in the head of the competitor.
Good training and dryfiring can help give the shooter the physical training to help the mind, but the mind that worries about the gun cannot win.

Good advice. I shoot twice a week and occasionally we do extra drills before practices.
Here's a TF target from our last match.
I realize that it's me who needs work, but I still want another gun.

Is that a factory original pistol. If not, what modifications were done.

Back in the day when service pistols needed GI grip safeties and spur hammers, this gun had those parts swapped in with Cylinder and Slide versions. Other than that. Stock.
Stock barrel, bushing, link, fitting.

If you're going to send it to a bullseye pistolsmith for accurizing, I'd ask the pistolsmith what his preferences are in a base gun.

What bullet cuts these clean holes? My Zero 200 lswc’s produce holes that look like they were made by shoving your finger through the paper. No one wants to score my targets.

My photo shows Brazos holes on Krueger targets.
I think the targets deserve all the credit.

Springfield armory
Get a garrison, have a match bushing fit, put egw hammer and sear and have fit, If slide to frame play is loose, have fit.. good for 1.5 inch 10 shots at 50 yards if you reload in 9mm or 45. Stay away from stainless . Put on slide mount if you want
