Powder and .22s are Unobtanium. Empty Powder and .22s are Unobtanium.

Post by DeweyHales 1/17/2014, 2:55 pm

We have a gun show coming up tomorrow.  Like everyone else, I'll be on the hunt for powder and .22s.  To get an idea of prices, I checked MidwayUSA, Midsouth Shooters Supply, Powder Valley, Grafs and Wideners.  None of these places have powder.  I think and hope I can weather the storm, but I've got a few friends just getting into shooting.  It's proving very difficult to keep supplied.  If anyone finds supplies online, please remember to post a link here after getting what you need.

Most people I interact with are watching gunbot.com or ammoseek.com.  Stuff flies off the shelf very fast.  Powder Valley sold out of their shipment of 1200 lbs of Varget this week in the first 30 minutes it went up on their site.

Twenty-two is gone in minutes.  The Federal at Midway was sold seven minutes after it went on line.  Hard to keep up at that pace.

Dewey,

Try these sites like kczerwin said...  ammoseek.com and gunbot.net  You can enter whatever parameters you like to search over 100 internet retailers for ammo.

I've also found a lot of ammo at reasonable prices on gunbroker.com.

If you are on Facebook, search for ammo finder pages.  You'll find people buying and selling, as well as listing deals they found elsewhere.

I am relatively stocked up on .22 LR (4K rounds) at the moment so I haven't been looking for it recently.

It must be a little regional because most items are in stock around here now. But many dealers have signs up saying don't buy everything in sight or something to that effect. It has even changed so much that I got a sales flyer where some ammo (including some 22 LR), bullets, and powder is on sale next weekend. The powder is on page 48, the last page of the flyer. I haven't been buying much lately as I think people buying everything on the shelves is what caused most of the issues. Here is a link to the flyer just FYI.

On the flyer check out the banner on page 48 "Limited quantities stock up now" -  isn't that the problem!  Smile

Well that is why I mentioned the signs at LGS.  However, for the last month or so, the stock seemed pretty normal. I even got some primers, Federal Match no less, for $23 per thousand a couple of weeks ago. That was a good price even a year ago.

For what it's worth, Aguila ammo seems to be plentiful here in PA and a lot of other places in the country.  Never used it, so I don't know if it's worth anything for BE shooting.

  • ELEY Hi Sam, we’re sorry you’re unhappy with the lack of supply. Our last shipment was received mid to late December in the USA and contained black box ammunition. If you place an order with your supplier hopefully you’ll be able to get some of our latest shipment in February.

Powder and .22s are Unobtanium. Empty Champion's Choice-- Ammo?

Post by jerry lehrer 1/27/2014, 5:25 pm

Why does Champion's Choice advertize .22 and Centerfire Ammo for sale when the clearly say that they do not
ship Hazmat materials?

I've purchased 22 ammo by the case several times from CC. FedEx and UPS can/will ship live ammunition via Ground classed ORM-D.

Jerry:

Ammunition was class ORM D not hazardous materials.  Now the UN/OSHA/DOT GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals ) are phasing in and the shipping labels will change--still the same effective material classification though.  I believe Limited Quantity is the term that will be used.  Powder and primers are HAZMAT.  Ammo should still ship without HAZMAT fees.

And even the V-310 is gone now.

The rallying cry seems to be--- GET IT ALL BEFORE THE HOARDERS DO !!

BTW-- I V-310 a good powder for .45 mid range loads?  With 185 0r 200 grain bullets?

People like N310 with lead 185s and 200s.

But, it shines with 185 and 230 jacketed rounds.

It meters well and is very clean burning.

The good news is we are starting to see powder popping up once in a while again!
Primers seem to have made a decent comeback and are available most of the time lately. Now we need the 22's to make a comeback.

I stay out of the big box Cabelas and Dick's and what I'm seeing in the small gun shops is plenty of primers, some powder is back on the shelves and to my amazement at one store, there was .22 Blazer with no limit for $4.00 a box. Not positive what his stock in back was like, but there was plenty on the shelf, more than a case. The clerk said he got some complaints about the price.  The place right down the road had it for $8.00 a box.  Shelves are starting to fill where they were empty just a month ago.

Thank you for this info: I just bought 4000 Winchester M-22 last week. I'll check the lot numbers tonight. It is generally pretty good and it is one of the two brands which I can get in large quantity locally, the other being Remington Golden Bullet (avoid). The store I bought it from has another 7k in stock. It is getting scarce though.
