New match director
First topic message reminder :
I'm new to Bullseye and new as a match director (no one else around here was running a match, so I just started my own). As has been mentioned elsewhere, info about Bullseye on the internet is more limited than it could be. If you think that's hard, try googling "how to run a Bullseye match". A new match director as clueless as I am is pretty much out of luck.
I drove a couple of hundred miles to a match just to get idea of what it's supposed to look like and we had our first match this month, so I've seen exactly 2 matches. All things considered our first match turned out pretty well - we shot an 1800, about a dozen shooters showed up and had a lot of fun. We learned a lot (both about shooting and about running a match).
Current match directors - what mistakes have you made, what would you do different, what's the smartest thing you've done?
Shooters - what do you see at matches that you think could be done better, what do you see that you think is great, what would you like to see?
The questions above aren't meant to limit the topic, they're meant to get you thinking. I'm just looking for a little brain-storming about how to run a good local match while promoting the sport...
Thanks in advance!

Re: New match director
We also sometimes use the range commands that are available for a smart phone with a loudspeaker too!
Re: New match director
TexasShooter just directed our fourth club match today. Excellent job!! We picked up a few new shooters, had a few alibis to shoot, one target turn malfunction that was handled perfectly, kept me from making a safety error, and started and finished on time with everyone happy.
We need two more match directors in our club like TexasShooter!!

Re: New match director
Texas Shooter is now an expert in running a Bullseye match. He has dealt with electronics, late arrivals, automated target turner startup problems, people who can't see to score and can't score when they see, and after all that can't add.
In other words, another good job on last Saturday's rather windy club match.

Re: New match director
Don't know about expert but we're all having fun, and I appreciate the kind words. There is a certain "cool factor" in pressing a button and watching the targets turn instead of dragging on that 6' lever. Maybe we should advertise our spring club matches as preparation for Camp Perry - we've certainly got the weather for it, 20-25 mph (in west Texas no one pays much attention until it hits 30 or so). Good match and some fairly impressive scores considering the breezy conditions.
