Re: Aimpoint T2 or Ultradot for Bullseye
For a 22, I’d look at the Aimpoint P2 with a 3 MOA dot.

aimpoint t2.
The problem with the the acro is the lack of sun shades, in the correct light conditions glare can be a problem.

How strong are you? Although I settled on Aimpoint H1's, don't overlook the 9000SC.

I have had multiple Ultradots fail, including one that was only on .22s. If you have the budget for Aimpoint, Aimpoint is the way to go.

I have an Aimpoint I will sell-it's too heavy for me.

Never seen a T2 on a Bullseye pistol. For the micro tube style the Aimpoint H1 was classic, but, AFAIK, that model is now out of production (but there are clones on the market), just a few left on the Aimpoint website. The 9000sc is very popular with many serious shooters (including the AMU). Both models need shades. Photo escape and others offer them.
If you are just beginning your Bullseye journey I would suggest an Ultradot, definitely superior to an open reflex (vortex venom, etc.), especially outdoors. But get some horizontal split rings, the UD OEM rings are not great.

If going for other suggestions outside of ultradot and aimpoint t2, the 9000 hands down.

Re: Aimpoint T2 or Ultradot for Bullseye
Ok, I’m well versed on this. I have used Ultra Dots for years and about 6 years ago converted everything to Aimpoint 9000s. My experience is with 30mm ones.
The Ultra Dot makes the image smaller, not much but some. It’s very good as it doesn’t have hardly any parallax. I have broke a few, they get fixed for free but not a short time process.
The Aimpoint (I use the bigger dot) does not have adjustable dot sizes. The batteries will last years, even if you forget to turn it off. No image reduction and no parallax. I also broke an Aimpoint on a slide mounted 1911. Even though it was long out of warranty they replaced it quickly for free.
Either one will work good but, if $ no object get the 9000, there’s a reason they cost more, quality.

I have a Sightron S30 on my .22, the ad says it is 5 moa, but it is really more like a 2 moa dot. It has been reliable for about 4 years on my model 41.

OP, just for your info, here is what a 9000sc looks like when mounted on a conversion
This is actually a Marvel, but very similar to your Nelson. 30mm horizontal split rings. That is a large diameter front shade, but there are reduced diameter shades (PhotoEscape) also available (as well as short rear shade tubes).

Hands down I would go for the Aimpoint. But you can save a bit of money going with the H-2 vs. the T-2. The T-2 is night vision capable.

Wow! The 9000 is a beast for sure. 8 oz not including the sun shade and it's as long as the 1911! Most of what I see at our local IWLA Bullseye matches are Ultradots, venom style dots, and a few Aimpoints. Most of our match and practice shooting is under cover and the targets are in the open. Is it still necessary to have a sunshade on any optics shooting under cover.RoyDean wrote:OP, just for your info, here is what a 9000sc looks like when mounted on a conversion

If you’re undercover, no you don’t need sunshades.
As for Aimpoint optics…i have an H2 and it works very well. The T1/T2 are the military grade versions. Because of the military operating conditions you’re paying a lot for features that you don’t need nor will you ever use. Like night vision settings, Being able to use it in an unpressurized airplane at 30000 feet then parachuting into the ocean to reach a submarine. Those kinds of things are built into the T1. Hence the recommendation for the Acro (P1) Aimpoint. Aimpoint sells “sunshades” for the P1 for $115 or so. These snap on or off. These are actually used as a “kill-flash” to hide the reflection. But they work just fine as a sunshade. Even with the killflash you’re in for less than a T1.

Not entirely true, It depends on where the sunlight is in respect of your firing position. For example, an east facing range in the morning will have sunlight moving in from the south east, perfect conditions for glare even with shades.Wobbley wrote:chwebmaker wrote:

And, depending on the gun, the shades also serve to reduce the amount of oil and other debris from getting on the objective lens. I also find that even indoor ranges can present glare problems. If you spend $500+ on an Aimpoint I would definitely get some shades! Also buy a lens pen!
The svelte form of an H1 has its appeal. The somewhat bulkier H2 (T2) somehow does not appeal to me. But, for Bullseye, if you are serious, then the 9000sc is the better choice, IMHO.

Re: Aimpoint T2 or Ultradot for Bullseye
Not sure on the Aimpoint Micro's but have a Primary Arms MD-25 and a Holosun 515gt and 509t. The are all enclosed red dots, the MD-25 has the larger window but do have the 515 with it's 20mm lense mounted on a .45. Think all these have the Aimpoint micro footprint except the 509t with it's weird mount but also uses a picatinny adapter base.

I run the 9000SC on my Nelson, if you are also shooting a .45 1911 it gets you close to both being the same weight. If you only shoot .22 then save some money and give the SIG Romeo 05 a hard look. I have had the SIG on my Hammerli 208s for two seasons of indoor league with no issues whatsoever.

I have Primary Arms on my M41 and Essee. But am not a serious shooter.
I would take the Aimpoint 9000sc advise if I was.

Ultradot.
You can use the money you save to buy match ammo.
I have been using ultradots for years and currently have 4 mounted and in use. (only on .22) I've only had one problem with a switch and Ultradot fixed it for free, although it did take them 5 weeks to get it back to me.

Re: Aimpoint T2 or Ultradot for Bullseye
I started out many years ago with an Aimpoint 1000. (not a typo)
At some point, moved everything to UltraDot. They worked for decades. Never an issue. I would suggest the smallest size dot available.
