Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
Jim, thanks for the accolade, but in fact I drove over from Columbus Ohio on Thursday having done the "red eye" from Oregon on Monday.
Sadly I have picked up another COVID like bug and I am not even fit to shoot myself this morning. 8 hours to/fro for nothing. Ho hum!

About 16 brave souls shooting.
Legendary range with 80 firing points. What it must have been, back in the day.

I first shot Bristol in the late 70s and it became a regular pre-Perry match for many years after I moved to the Detroit area. As I recall there
was at least two full relays. It was also the only time I decided to arrive a day ealy to shoot their International matches. Free Pistol and Rapid Fire
with my S&W 41. What a blast!

Dr. Judy Tant was saying it was two relays in the 90’s also!

It was still 2 full relays in the early 2000's, probably up until about 2008 or so. I am pretty sure my first few times (2004? 2005?) the AMU and Marines sent teams for it.
My first time there the Illinois team was scored by the Michigan team captained by someone named Mike McShea

When (and if, big IF) I will retire, I will happily join you guys at Bristol, Canton and all other great matches across the country. But for now all I can afford is Perry.bruce martindale wrote:A sad reflection on our world. How can we save it?
Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
I’m not retired, and, Perry doesn’t supply free lunch!
Of course I’m only 2 1/2 hours away from both!

Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
This thread got me to dig out a few dusty manilla envelopes with match bulletins from the last century. From June 27-28, 1998. "OFFICIAL BULLETIN NRA REGIONAL", St. Joseph Valley Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. CHIEF WA-KE'-DE OOUTDOOR RANGE. This was my first summer shooting outdoors with my own .45. I had to wait 7 months in '97 for my Illinois made Les Baer 1.5" Bullseye Wadcutter to be made.
Competitor #135 was the highest in the bulletin.
Match winner Terry Webb (no relation) 2615-113x
1st Master Ed Schilke 2602-105x
1st Expert Dan Flave 2579-74x
1st Sharp Shooter Richard Christiansen 2498-47x
1st Marksman Dan Webb 2398-52x

Bristol Bullseye
I've been lucky enough to shoot with the Bristol guys in their Tuesday summer league this year due to a temporary relocation, and I can't share enough positive words about the club, the organizers (Michael and Dave), or the bullseye members who attend. You could not find any better, anywhere. While unable to attend the regional this year, I have several times in the past and always feel privileged to shoot on the Wa-Ke-Da range. If you didn't go this year, plan to go next year. If you're in the area during the summer season for any reason, Wa-Ke-Da (aka Sjvrpa) is worth visiting for their Tuesday league nights (3 x 300 shooting starts 6:30 pm). Guaranteed you will not find a friendlier or more welcoming group of shooters anywhere.

I shot there starting in the mid 70's. !00 firing points then. A match in May & Sep were limited to 1 relay while the Regional was 2 relays. Spring & fall matches usually had delayed starts as they signed up late comers. The line was nearly to or full most matches. International matches the day prior were fun. One of the most pleasant ranges for matches I experienced.

Did you have to pay extra for a "dumpster view" campsite?

Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
Ahhh, those were the days! When I still lived in Grosse Pointe I was only two hours from Camp Perry. Now, it'sa 30 hour drive EACH WAY!Bristol was always a good time with a chance to shoot among friends just prior to Camp Perry. I hope it the Ohio Triple Crown hasn't taken many of those participants away from the fun at Bristol.Mikejames r chapman I’m not retired, and, Perry doesn’t supply free lunch! wrote:

Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
Well, Cardinal did slide in there, then the CMP/NRA divorce happened. Causing scheduling to become an issue. This year there’s a week break before Cardinal. I guess a fishing trip could be planned.

Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
In the late 70's & early 80's the schedule, as I remember, was Bristol and Canton on succeeding weekends, then Perry on whatever day it started. We shot a lot of hardball in May-June getting ready!

Ron,
I believe you are correct and I really LOVED all that hardball!! I still do even if I don't do as well today.

Re: BRISTOL, IN REGIONAL JUNE 29-30
Mike,
There aren't any BE matches close to me anymore. When i came to FL we shot matches every weekend. 1 was a practice as were the mo's w/ 5 Sundays.
The last ball match I helped with a 248 was high non distinguished!? The days I mentioned were so exciting...getting ready for the Regionals amd Perry. Shooting a lot of ball getting ready and all the shooters speculating on what score it would take to get a leg. I haven't shot ball since they changed the rules but it seems the atmosphere must have changed. Speculation now must be about what gun and load might give an edge. But things always change and the veterans tell "how it used ti be". I hope BE survives and there is a strong come back!
