Looking for a 9mm Empty Looking for a 9mm

Looking for recommendations for a 9mm pistol for cheaper practice. I would like it to be decently accurate and capable of making decent grouping at 50 yd, at least 9 ring. I'm not going to be outshooting the gun yet, so I'm not worried about it being the absolute best. Right now I've been thinking of the springfield loaded or a Colt gold cup national match. Would it be worth saving for a SW performance center? I figure I might put rink grips on the gun.

I have owned a couple of "Performance Center" S&W's in the past. Over-priced and under-performers, in mine and others experience.

Springfield's are usually great guns, but you will most likely need someone to tune the trigger.

Whilst they list at close to $2k, so maybe above your budget, but I notice that there are usually several lightly used SIG P210's on GunBroker at much lower price. I love that gun, I wonder why I sold mine on? Look here:-

They like softer shooting heavier bullet ammo and you will probably need to increase the trigger pull weight if you use it for EIC SP (there is a very good thread on doing that here on the forum), but they are very accurate and reliable.

Are the newer p210's of the same quality as the older ones?

If it was me… I’d opt for a Springfield Armory 1911 “Loaded Target” in 9mm.  Find some ammo it likes and shoot the heck out of it.  OR,  Buy Sig P210.

If really on the cheap, Springfield XDm 5.25.  Toss in a trigger kit from PRP maybe add some grip tape. Should be doable under 1k.

I will second the Springfield Loaded Target. Mine, in 45, is very accurate. Don’t waste your money on a Colt Gold Cup unless you just want one. I started with a Gold Cup back in the 80s so bought a couple of new ones. Not in the same league as the Springfield.
I to love the Sig P210 American. Super accurate and a great trigger even with springs to make it 4 lbs.  I shot 147 JHP exclusively. I replaced the huge factory grips with Hogue.

The P210 American is a very nice product. Whilst the Swiss made ones were hand finished and beautiful, they are now quite expensive. If you get a lightly used "American" at a good price, shoot it, then eventually sell it on at cost.

Or, as mentioned by Chiz, the SA XDM is also a great choice, especially if you have got med/lrg hands. Powder River trigger kit makes them sing. And you can get one that is reflex optic ready.

Mine is a decent shooter. I use Blazer 115 brass case at 25 and Speer 147 at 50. Factory stock, trigger is a long roll that's perfectly smooth. With the fiber optic front sight I shoot center mass at 25'. The dot keeps my eye from running to the target.
They seem to not hold their value well. You might get a good deal on a used one if you can find it.

Good luck.

How cheap? CZ p09 Nocturne would be a good start. I met an operator that was stationed in Malaysia and they used them there and he claims they hold 5 inches at 75 yards.

Sig 320 has good potential and kkm makes a barrel for that gun.

PDP Full Size

I have a PPQ with the Dynamic trigger, standard trigger return spring makes weight,  and a Jarvis barrel it will hold the 9 ring. I am still learning how to reload match grade 9mm ammo but with 124gn RMR Match winners over w231 4.3 it will hold the Xring at 25 yards. Unless you are going to mount the optic there is zero need to go with a q5 match. With ppq M2 or PDP the standard pistol is good. You can get a taller front sight from Earl's if you want to hold 6 oclock low at 25 yards. The Walther barrel may be just as accurate as the Jarvis barrel but the twist is different at 1:9 versus 1:16 for the Jarvis. The Jarvis has button rifling where as the Walther Barrel is polygonal. The PDP is low cost and you can probably get a PPQ cheap. Most PDP and PPQ parts are interchangeable. Just Avoid early M2's 5 inch as they used PPQ navy strikers which were modified to work under water and make the trigger very strickerish and messes with reliability with lighter loads.

A Tisas 1911 with a EGW bushing should work too.

I would recommend getting a pistol in 9mm that is similar to the .45 ACP pistol that you shoot in matches. If your current pistol is a 1911, then your choices are to buy a fairly basic 1911 in 9mm and send it off to have work done by someone like Dave Salyer, if he is recovered from his accident, or buy an expensive Rock River Arms, ready to go, 1911 in 9mm. Of course, the cheapest option is to start reloading .45 ACP with a progressive press, like a Dillon. You can find a lot of used ones on eBay, like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/145970755451?_nkw=used+dillon+reloading+press+equipment&itmmeta=01J6F3JZY56VV6MPCS0M461KY9&hash=item21fc88f77b:g:JvwAAOSwhB5myA4h&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKmauP42d1MTbwcKN3kVSWzSELAGalp7Ls7rc8CeJqKuUNB7xm0yW%2Bi3lGk7T1cdJAs4l4m3lQSOR03XF%2B9nziudxisbjScesaOv854ulCusH85hm8WdBq7lpJ%2FgrEP3sy6KNqhhDqdPI4c6djE7POTs8ZvIKaI6Uv1c0Xd4NK6%2BY8WmozZrWLDmjUS9Ti7J3nns%2FbefUKzCJ%2B0kH9zZoZlyCaSwHw%2FVCSrJ0FRZ8K0432mMAcy0ybVyDRGlPWjGT3tzjVCS4IxxdhTY0Uqm9HNJ%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5b_y-OzZA

Don't overlook the CZ-75 series.  I have an SP-01 that shoots 125 grain Hornady HAP's over 3.9 grains of Win 244 extremely well.  It's not bad with factory 124's either.

Cajun Gunworks has all the upgrade options as well.
