My new toy is back! 7.65x21 (30 Luger) 1911 match gun
Based on the success and accuracy I had with my 9mm Series 80 Colt Commander, for which I had located and had fit to it a Colt Factory .30 Luger barrel, I decided to have the same thing done to my 9mm PPC auto since I can't really shoot PPC anymore. The gun is a Series 80 with a Kart 9mm barrel that I sent to Bar Sto to have them fit one of their .30 Luger barrels to it (so I can switch if I want to go back to 9mm), and they did a beautiful job! Because of the lighter bullet, they switched it to a 15lb mainspring and a 7lb recoil spring, and I can't wait to get out and try it.
While I have a fair supply of factory ammo, obviously, this is going to be a reloading proposition, and I have some supplies on hand, including some bullets (100 gr Speer Plinker, some 93gr FMJ, Hornady 90gr JHP, Sierra 85gr FMJ among them)and powders (WW231/Bullseye/WST/AA#2/AA#5/AA#7/N310/N330, among others). Has anyone here been down this road before with reloading this cartridge for competition? The internet makes mention of 4227 powder as a good choice, but data is scarce.

I don't know the bullets you plan to load with. Just wonder if you checked compatibility with bullseye. .312 bullets are legal. .308 are not.

I thought about that, but the rulebook says:
"3.5 Any Center Fire Pistol or Revolver – The center fire pistol
or revolver, as described below shall be used in the Center Fire
Precision Pistol matches.
Center-fire pistols (single shot or semi-automatic)) or revolvers
of .32 caliber or larger (including 7.65 mm and .45 caliber pistols
and revolvers); "
I would think they'd have to allow it, since it's officially 7.65x21mm, and even .32 long isn't actually .32 caliber; I don't find any mention of bullet diameter.

Speer pinker bullets were supposed to be the hot ticket. Cast 30 carbine bullets were not in the data but were adjacent. 32 acp bullets didn't do well for me.

I think workable loads coukd be found using Unique, WSF, Accurate #5, Power Pistol, and Blue Dot. These are the go to powders for 7.62 Tokarev and since the Luger is smaller these should work well in it as well. As for bullets these may be a bit scarce, but I think the Hornady 90 grain looks like it might shoot ok. Some 30 Luger chambers won’t accept .312 bullets.

Good additional info
While I have a small amount of Unique (also known these days as Unicorn), I do have 8 lbs of WSF and 4 lbs of Blue Dot, so that should give something to work with, along with 1 lb of AA#5.
Now the fun part begins in finding the right load(s).
Thanks

Part of your search is easy. Midway has 30 Luger brass and 90gr XTP's in stock. The Starline brass costs less than the bullets.
