Ohio Governor’s Cup
Hello everyone!!!
Just a reminder that we are one week away from the Ohio Governor’s Cup match at the Cardinal Shooting center.
This will be the last outdoor state match with EIC’s this year!
This will also be my final match as Ohio State Pistol Director. It has been a pleasure to work for the shooting community here in Ohio.
We have some of the best competitors in the country and ORPA will be at the forefront of it all.
Everything being said, there are HUGE changes coming to Ohio for the 2025 shooting season, and I am now going to actually compete in the “ new match “ that is coming.
Thank you all for the support and I wish Doug the best in taking over the pistol directorship!

Re: Ohio Governor’s Cup
Chiz and I had a conversation over email about this match a few weeks ago. The initial question that Chris raised was whether anyone had ever won Ohio State Outdoor Championship and the “Governor’s Trophy” (as it was called at the time) in the same year.
I contended that Frank Bickar probably had, but I didn’t have documentation to back up my contention. Still don’t. Governor’s Trophy used to be in June, and somewhat sparsely attended. State Match was in August and had more robust attendance. Both at Canton McKinley in the 1980s and 1990s.
I’m glad you’re keeping this tradition alive. It would be nice for the Champion to get a letter from the Governor of Ohio.
(It also would be nice for the winners of the President’s Pistol and Rifle Championships to get a letter from the President of the United States. But I digress.)
I’ll keep an eye out for any legacy documentation around this match. Don’t get your hopes up. I doubt I have it.

Re: Ohio Governor’s Cup
One of my favorite matches, I have always learned something when shooting this match. State matches like this are an excellent opportunity to hone your skills.
If 2700s are not your thing, you can come for the EICs.
