Trail Boss-45 ACP
After doing more research on the combination of Trail Boss and target velocities of the 45ACP-my conclusion is that although the loading densities of Trail Boss is better than BE,N310,Clays,WST or Ba10 it is not a fast enough powder for the 45 ACP. IMHO...of course.

Re: Trailboss Powder-45 ACP
I did a little experimenting with TB, and 185 SWC from Dardas. Using 5.2 gr. averaged 909 over my chrono, and 4.8 gr. averaged 820. My gun has a 6" Kart barrel. Both groups measured just over 3" @ 25 yards which was disappointing, but I blame the bullet for that.

Re: Trailboss Powder-45 ACP
Why do you say its too slow? It is much faster than 231 or AA#2
It may not work for 185 lead but 200 should be ok
(Solo 1000 has these problems)

I've tried a few loads with TB and a Dardas 185 gr. SWC. It works well, burns clean, fills the case nicely, and seems to be quite accurate.
I ran these over my chrono using a sandbag rest. Average of 10 shot groups @ 25 yards using my wad gun, which has a 6" barrel
5.4 gr. - 909 fps, SD-23.5, ES-80, Groups 3-1/8"
4.8 gr. - 820 fps, SD-13.4, ES-19.4, Groups 3-3/8"
4.4 gr. - 829 fps, SD-10.1, ES-28.1, Groups 2-3/4"
Then I realized that the tuner on my BoMar rib was loose, so I tightened it up and shot the 4.8 gr. load again, since that was all I had left, and the group shrank down to 2". Big improvement !

Re: Trailboss Powder-45 ACP
looks like the more you slowed it down the more accurate it got, try something in 725-750 fps range.

Re: Trailboss Powder-45 ACP
I found this thread while researching Trailboss. I figured I'd add my experience from today. I am out of practice for maximum accuracy shooting, this is my best group of the day, just under 2"@25y.
I loaded 3.5 gr of Trailboss under some Penn 200 LSWC and Bear Creek moly lubed 230gr LRN (pictured). I didn't chrono, but book said they should be ~650fps. The 200SWCs just barely cycle my new-to-me 1911 with a 14# recoil spring, large radius fps and what I'm pretty sure is a 23# main spring. The moly 230s seemed to shoot more accurately, somewhat to my surprise. Interesting bullet, first time I've shot them. The nose is reduced in size and they have a bit of a shoulder similar to a SWC. I suspect this design might enhance accuracy by keeping the nose from contacting the leade.
