2025 Frank Bickar Memorial Pistol CMP Championship - Canton Mckinley Rifle and Pistol Club
Hi all,
On behalf of CMRPC, we are putting out "feelers" for input for this year's match.
As you have no doubt heard, our match is schedued to take place the week between the NRA National Champsionships and the CMP National Matches. As such providing shooters with the chance to shoot in an even bigger Ohio Triple Crown!
Again our club is dedicated to providing competitors with the best shooting experience it can, and have been busy planning for the 2025 match in light of the recent news of the NRA champsionships coming coming to Cardinal Shooting Center.
As such we are again asking past, present and future shooters which match format would they prefer and why. The choices being :
a) A 2 day regional with 22 and CF 900 matches are shot on 1 day. and the 45 900 match is shot the next. EIC and revolver matches would be shot on the second day.
b) The standard of a 3 day Match with individual 900 matches on respective days with EIC and revolver matches occuring after the day's relay's.
The reasons provided last year in a letter you likely recieved was to:a) dwindling precisio shooter paticipation b) to cut down on volunteers needed for the match for the 3rd day and c) the need to leave Canton on Sunday to get to Camp Perry.
Again, we thank you in advance for either shooting or considering shooting at our match! Please be frank in your choices, suggestions, and concerns! We really want to hear them!
Please provide feedback either on this string or you can email me JJ Ramirez, triplejranch@gmail.com.

My opinion, with the reduced number of firing points which last year necessitated adding a third relay, the three day format is best. I would be surprised with the NRA matches now at Cardinal, if you didn’t get increased participation from last year.
My biggest concern, please do something about the quirky entry system, that necessitated me having to get a computer expert to change several settings on his office machine in order to defeat the security protocols enough to actually get the entry made electronically. It was a Royal PITA. Canton is a lovely match, and I think it will do well in years to come.

+1 for the three day format. It makes sense with the paired EICs and makes more sense considering there were three relays last year. Just seems like a really tight 2 day schedule that wouldn't be as enjoyable. Also, Canton was my favorite location of the 3 matches, so it would be unfortunate to shorten the experience by a third.

I agree with Kate that it is very likely that Canton will see an increase in entries for 2025. A lot of folks will make the effort to do a full 2 week "Ohio Tour".
3 day format is best - no question.

Sent to Ernie earlier this week:
My thoughts:
Three days. Bring back team matches.
I do plan to attend.
Get as many shooters as you can involved in the match. Invite your friends; heck, even invite your enemies. My entrée to Bullseye Pistol was being a line officer at the Regional, and I've stuck around now for 40+ years.
I'll again advocate bringing back team matches at the Regional. Team matches allow people to coach each other and build the bonds that make our sport strong.
I'm one of the only people on the planet who can say this: Frank Bickar would want you to do everything that you can to drive up participation (and enjoyment, and community) for this match. He worked very hard to drive up participation at this particular match. That's what led to the Pistol Range expanding from 60-ish firing points to 100 (at one time), and what led to the match being a three-day match rather than a two-day match.
Respectfully submitted,
