anybody have any experience with the Aimpoint 9000SC?
I have a new wad gun with an Ultra Dot Matchdot that I started shooting in late May. The longer I have shot it the worse I have done. Thursday evening I was trying some new loads and then the dot changed from a dot to red diagonal smear from the top to the bottom of the scope. Obviously something went wrong inside the scope. You can jiggle it around upside down and get a dot back but as soon as you move it it disappears again. Seems like the projector? (or whatever you call the thing that shines the light) has broken and fallen. I am thinking this has been loose for a while considering how off call my long line shooting was. I put an older Matchdot on it and long line was back to call. I like the Matchdots because I like the 6MOA dot. I concentrate on the dot and the larger dot helps me to do that. A highmaster friend bought 2 1" ultradots last year and had to send both of them back. Now my Matchdot self destructed. Was thinking of going to the Aimpoint 9000. I can get a 4MOA dot but not a 6. I guess I could get used to it. Or I can just send the new one back and get it fixed and try it again. Just wondering if anybody had and liked a 9000.

Jim Henderson uses the Aimpoint 9000 and highly recommends it. It will be the next scope I try. I have 30 mm Ultra Dots and Aimpoint Micro ' s now, but want totry the 9000. Just sent my Ultra Dot to get warranty repaired and don't care for field of view with the Micro. Figured I'd try the 9000. Also cheaper than the Micro.

Dear SM:
I have the 9000L and use that on top of my Pardini SP New Bullseye. I prefer it over the match dots primarily because the dot is more "rounder" or perfect then the Match dot. I would be perfectly happy with the ultra dot match dot but think the 9000L is a step up.
My old gun had a 9000 SC which is the shorter version of the 9000L and that fit the Izh 35m a bit better.
Been using the 9000 SC/9000 L for six or seven years.
By the way, I am a 2 moa dot size shooter.

I used 2 of these sights, on both the .22 and the .45, and like them a lot. I sold one and have another to sell. I never had any trouble with either sight. I used a pretty light spring on the .45. I used the 4min dots and always preferred Aimpoints over UD's though I haved had several of both.
I don't use the 9000 because of it's weight and very severe arm/shoulder troubles. I can't shoot the .45 for the same reason.

The last frame mount I built customer used a 9000L and he absolutely loves it. Reliable, round dot, he couldn't be any happier. From my limited experience I think the Aimpoint products "last" longer than the Ultra Dots. Just my .02

I have 2 aimpoint 5000's I bought back in 1994 one just died due to a leaky battery. They are great dots, I would have bought Aimpiont for my bullseye guns but I liked the zero feature on the match dot II.

Dave, what you planning on putting on the CF gun?

National champion, Phillip Hemphill uses a 9000, when I asked him why it over others his answer was it was FREE, but he shoots very high scores with it. A comp 4 with 4moa dot is also a good choice and smaller than the 9000

In some applications the 9000SC is the easier to mount, for instance a slide mounted 1911 .45, as the 2 rings are clear of the port and the Comp is limited in positioning. When using the frame mounts the problem likely is not encountered.
I have used 4 of the Comps and they are really good little sights but I used them on .22's. I still have 2 of them, the newest w/ the extended battery life architecture which is one of the nicest features ever on a dot sight as you can forget the off-on switch, as in forget between outings without effect on the batteries.
The difference is mostly personnal preferance.

As fast as I can. I'll do everything I can to come in early on the estimate, I promise!

Although Phillip Hemphill shoots a 9000 because it is "free" you can bet your bippy that he believes that there is also nothing better available. Twenty six years ago, when was was shooting hard, I was contacted by an optics manufacturer. They offered to send me anything in their catalogue with the statement that if I shot it in an upcoming match it would be mine, no charge (free).. I threw the mail in the trash..

I like the idea of a possibly higher quality scope but the smaller dot concerns me. For now I'm gonna stick with the Matchdot. I can always switch to the 4moa on the matchdot and see how I like it.
