Anyone using SK 22lr ammo Empty Anyone using SK 22lr ammo

Post by 1badz28 9/15/2014, 1:31 pm

I have just about used up all of my CCI SV for my m41, I have got my hands on some of this SK magizine 22 ammo. It looks to be produced by Lapula and looks to be arround 1060fps, however the entire cartrige is coverd in lube. Do you use it as is or should one be wiping the lube off the brass.? Thanks for any info..

SK is reported  to be one of the weaker cycling ammos.  My 41 is the most sensitive to weak cycling of any pistol I have.  (Yes I have tried the less pounds recoil springs.  The hammer spring and geometry seem to be the culprits)

Strange though that weak cycling does not equal significant lower velocity by my chronographing.

I recently shot several different types of .22 LR at 25 yds using a bench rest.  I did five shot groups through a chrono and found the SK would group about 3/4 inch, but with an occasional flyer. The best grouping was with Aguila at less than 1/2 inch. Everything chrono'd between 921 and 987. In my S&W 41, Aguila shot the best groups, followed by Eley Club, then Remington Match Rifle. The Remington was the fastest average and CCI Std Vel was the slowest average. I did have a 100 rounds of Eley Sport recently and about one in 20 rounds would not cycle in the M41.

I use SK Pistol Match in my Hammerli.  It does feel like its weaker but it is super accurate and cycles fine in my gun.

Glad to hear this seems like ok ammo, how about the lube? Wipe them down or run them the way they come.

Lube is there for a reason.  I leave it alone.

Yes SK is accurate, more so than CCI for me.  It just doesn't cycle different guns.

SK makes a Special Pistol Match .22 LR. It has a little more velocity than the Standard Pistol Match and a little more push to recoil the slide of a M-41. Even with Special Pistol Match you might need softer springs. Wolff makes a nice 3 spring kit for M-41.

My Ruger just loves SK Standard+. I consistently shoot a few points higher using it, compared to CCI, Winchester or Federal standard velocity. It feels weak, which is great for sustained fire; very little recoil. My rifle friend likes it too and uses it in competition. The lube does gum up the gun a bit...

I always thought from a center fire reloading standpoint you never wanted any lube on the brass So when fired and the case expands it has good grip on chamber walls and does not put any pressure on bolt. Sounds like I'm putting to much thought into this. But this m41 was a big upgrade from my buckmark and it took awhile to get it so I don't want to harm it. Thanks

Wow. My Ruger Mk III would have consistant failure to feed jams at round 3 in a five round magazine with the lot of SK Standard Plus I had. It also jammed in my Hammerli X-esse. In both pistols I feel the lot I had was too soft. I sold the remaining case I had to a 3P rifle shooter at cost. He's happy, so good for him and good for me.

I had a 2 bricks of that would have a low charge round in 1 -3 of 50 round box.  The round would stove pipe and the POI at 25yds was low 7 ring
and at 50yds would not land on paper.  Other than those 2 bricks flawless operation in several different .22 pistols including ruger MKII and X-esse.

Bad batches are always a possibility, so it's important that a lot be tried before being used in a competition. But Standard+ is probably the most used "target-grade" ammo at my club and we don't have issues with them. I see people using them in Pardinis, Rugers, FWBs, Buckmarks, Smith 41s, Toz free pistols...

SK shoots fine in my Marvel.  Lube is messy to handle, especially in summer.  Wolf, which is made by JAGD/SK, uses the same gooey lube.  Both shoot well in my guns.  Keep a towel handy to wipe your hands.

I use Wolf Match Target which is the same exact thing as Jagd SK Standard.  It works great in my Pardini and my Marvel.  I've seen issues shooting it out of my smallbore rifle (acuracy/fliers) but never an issue for my pistol.

SK Standard +:  My High Standard hates it.  I have to wipe off the lube to have any chance of cycling.  Victor can be real finicky, though.

I leave the lube on.

In a Mod 41, it consistently stovepipes the first round IF the temp is below 70 F, until the pistol has warmed up with about 20 rounds downrange.

Gold box stuff IIRC, think it was just called SK Match. Held the 10-ring easy at 50 yards from sandbags with iron sights.

Might have to try wiping the lube off the case next time I'm out in the cool.

This shot very well for me, both accurate and reliable, in both my Marvels and a 41.

Sure wish I needed it now!

The ammo shortage hasn't affected the "premium" stuff, here at least.

I hate you.

Last time I saw that much .22 LR in one spot, it was 6-8 weeks ago at the local Sportsman's, but was half Federal red box (I'd have bought Fed Champion--decent budget target stuff IME) cheapcrap, and half CCI...Blazer lead bullet I think.

Bought one brick of Blazer, was like $27!!!!! It's in the ammo locker waiting for more company to arrive.

BTW, how much per brick for that SK Standard Plus?  I'm less familiar with their variations than I am with all the Eley stuff.

Hmm, it was around $65 Canadian (60 USD) iirc, but I just went to check the Canadian distributor, and they've replaced the price with Out of Stock... I spoke too soon.
