I just started competing and entered 5 matches this summer.  I do not have my own range but I look forward to the weekends being the first one on the public range.  Those time are special to me and I enjoy those times most of all.  I also like dry firing, but that is probably because I do not do enough of it

During the competition season I shoot one match a week and usually practice once or twice a week as well.

I get just as excited heading to the practice session as I do for a match.

Prior to the competition season, I shoot every day after work, 4 or five times a week.

Practice sessions vary from 15 to 90 rounds.

If I am not having a good practice session or if my mind is not "there".  I stop practicing.

Personally, I don't practice very often.  Maybe five or six times a year.  However, I try to train every couple of days and enjoy it very much.

For bullseye, golf and any number of other sports; be especially aware of the difference between practice and training.  Each round fired or trip of the sear has some specific purpose when training.  Training helps us focus specifically on one of all the many things we need to do better and more consistently for a perfect shot.  Practice is when we step up and just perform the process so we can figure out how all those many things are coming together to help us find out what to train on next. Practice might make us better at what we are already know how to do, but training helps us get better at each of the things we should be doing.

Remember, it's not how many rounds you put downrange, but how you put each round downrange.

Just a couple of thoughts before I start working on the match stats and paperwork from yesterday's match.

I like to practice, I do it two or three times a week. I also like shooting the air pistol, which I do at 25 yrds using a regular BE TF target. I wouldn't say any of it is training, I just enjoy shooting, and am lucky to be able to do it at home.

I love dry firing in my basement with the 45.  Shooting air pistol in the basement is great too.

Going to the range and taking one or two boxes of reloads and trying to blow out a good portion of the black is gratifying and good training.
