I think what you are proposing would take a frame mod and would put your gun out of spec. Before doing that I'd get a spare short trigger and start grinding it into a short/short trigger.

Re: Shorter 1911 Grip Safety?
I build a ton of 1911's. Every standard grip safety is DIFFERENT! No one would be able to tell. I just worked on a series 70 Colt that the frame stuck out past the grip safety by 1/16". Tore up my hand when I shot it. I routinely grind down grip safety ' s and frames for comfortable grip and to shorten grip from grip safety to trigger. I prefer a shorter grip for gripping and I have a large hand.. The HS .22 is shorter than 1911 by about .050". I try to get my personal 19 11 ' s to this dimension and am successful. There's not a referee out there who would be able to tell the difference. Also correct me if I'm wrong but they are allowing frames that had beavertail safety with a standard grip safety for EIC matches. So it's not a big deal.

Jon, the changes for EIC rules haven't been decided yet, hopefully we will hear by December, they were suppose to be decided on last month.
beeser, I believe you said in another post you use this gun for EIC matches too. I wouldn't mod the frame until the EIC rule changes are firm.
If the grip safety doesn't at least go flush with the frame, I'd start filing (dremel) down the grip safety. Then the short/short trigger and frame mods last.
