Hardball front sight question
Regarding hardball-legal sights, I know the rules talk about colored sights that don't enhance light--but do they allow a gold bead front sight?

no. you are allowed to color the front sight, like with paint. wait until the new rules come out, who knows what they have changed.

The rulebook table 3 page 35 states:
Colored sights, or sights with dots are OK as long as sight does not gather or enhance light.
Says nothing about not being able to paint your sight. A gold bead might be considered light enhancing but I believe they are talking about "Light Pipe" style sights.

All the rules are likely to change within a month. For now, a gold bead is likely a no go at most places. In a month, almost anything could be possible.
My sight have almost always had some sort of paint, Sharpie, or grease pencil on them. This has never been any trouble at any major match at numerous venues.

Dave,
it doesn't mention a paint mark in the rules and that is why it's allowed. Many of the rules are about what is specifically not allowed, so a paint mark is allowed. I don't know the exact sight the OP is talking about but I would guess it's an addition to a front sight and that is what typically DQ's it. A small paint mark can be removed if a ref had a problem but i've never seen or heard that. Lots of guys have made a small mark in the face of the blade, even G.I. national match slides came with front sights that were serrated. I'm not in the business of splitting hairs but I cannot count the number of front sight blades, and front sights on EIC AR15's that have a small paint mark on them. You don't have to if you don't want.

Thanks to all. I'll stick with paint or nail polish.
