Hi-Tek Bullet Redux Empty Hi-Tek Bullet Redux

Post by beeser 11/19/2014, 9:00 am

I just finished using a box of Hi-Tek coated bullets.  Can't comment on their accuracy because of my limited shooting skills but here are my impressions.  Seems these are becoming more and more popular.  What are the latest thoughts from the BE crowd?

Pros
Cleaner handling - big plus for me
Less smoke - not a big deal shooting outdoors
No lead transfer - not a problem I experienced with standard LSWC bullets either

Cons
Cost is more than standard bullets - about 1.5 cents per round for my purchase
Slight smell of burning plastic with fire rounds - for me this is the biggest negative
Residue on barrel seems harder to clean

I originally thought there would be some fouling inside the barrel from the coating but that didn't happen.

Look for the  MSDS on the coatings. http://www.pcimag.com/articles/93682-the-effect-of-crosslinking-chemistry-on-superdurable-powder-coatings   and      https://www.osha.gov/dts/chemicalsampling/data/CH_273775.html

I don't want to have a discussion develop about the toxicity of these new bullet coatings on this thread.  It's ok for us to have a discussion of this topic, but create a new thread to do so.
