S&W 41 Slide w/ Scope Mount
Rather than drill and tap my 41 slide for a scope mount I understand there are slides available that already have this. Any recommendations for a good one?

It's actually the barrel that is drilled & tapped. I think most except the really old ones are tapped from the factory, so you might get a take off barrel & drop it on (most not all interchange). If you can't find an orphan you could always call Clark.

Beeser, The newer ones like the one on the bottom come pre-drilled and tapped for a weaver mount. This leaves the rear sight on but the scope sets a little forward. On the older models with the rounder barrel the best place to drill and tap it was actually over the rear sight and needs removed. If you have the old model and remove the rear sight then don't loose it. Very hard to find.

If you have a older model BME mounts will replace the rear sight with no drilling.

Only if you have the short barrel and the front of the mount kinda freefloats with a anti-vibration screw that doesn't really hold the front of mount solid. The long barrel has the back of the receiver shaped like a k frame. I think the mount on the old smith is actually for a K frame.twidle wrote:If you have a older model BME mounts will replace the rear sight with no drilling.

Why not just tap it by a competent tapper. It's not the Crown Jewels.

The sights on the older 41's and 52's are the same nothing like a revolver sight. I have BME mounts on both no issues what so ever. BME makes mounts for whatever red dot you choose to use. You didn't mention what Red dot you were planning to use.

Twidle,
Take a real close look at the pictures of the 41's above. The old long barreled 41 has no notch for a rear sight. The older 41s with a short barrel had a rear sight similar to the new one shown and identical to the model 52. There is no slot on the long barrel and no BME mount that fits it. See the mount on the longer one. It drops down into the rear sight flat spot just like it would on a k frame.

It was easier to take a picture of the sight then take the 41 apart. Notice the square nut just like the k frame.
