Bargain Entry-Level Pistols
When I got into the game, I was able to buy a new Ruger MkII for a mere $110. And ammo cost $80 a case.
What are the .22 caliber options for the entry-level club league shooter now? Can anyone shed light on the following two low-priced models and their possibility for a brand-new bullseye shooter even just for a year or two?
The Beretta U22 Neos 6" barrel - at $232 new ... or ... the Smith & Wesson 22A 5" barrel - at $264 new.
Accurate? Reliable? A decent or at least workable trigger?
Thank you in advance!

John,
These are not serious guns, plinkers yes, 50' indoor maybe.
You could find a decent used Ruger for around $300, that would be money better spent and many drop in options.
Of the two you mentioned the 22A is what I would take.
Hope this did not confuse you any?

Our league has a slew of S&W 22As we keep for newcomers. They are reliable, solid, and pretty accurate.
They are also made in Houlton, Maine.
We use them at clinics too.
One of our objectives is to introduce the sport to people who have never shot before. Having guns available is a huge help in that effort.

Still cant beat a ruger mkll for accuracy and reliability and low cost. They are capable of less than 2'' at 50 yrds with cheap cci or aguila ammo.
