using 357 mag cases for 38 cal bullseye shooting ?
are any of you guys doing this that I could ask what crimp and OAL are you using ? I am loading Speer 148 gr hbwc's. I am trying this because I believe the 357 cases wil work more accurate in a 357 revolver. I could be wrong but I think it makes sense because you are getting the bullet closer to the forcing cone and rifling.?

I don't believe it improves it at all, but, if doing so I'd load the hbwc flush with a very slight crimp to prevent bullet migration on recoil.

I did some of this many years ago. I had to increase the charge some. But overall it didn't help or hurt. The revolver was a Python and with Federal factory 38 wadcutters it would put them all in the X ring all day.

That should be a pretty simple, inexpensive test to run. Try it. Run a set of 38 special loads, then change just one variable, the 357 mag case. Let your revolver tell you the answer.

If you want better accuracy from an S&W revolver, get rid of the forcing cone, and Taylor Throat the barrel..

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate it. After reading your replies I am thinking about just shooting the standard hbwc rounds.

The Speer 148 gr hbwc's may not be a problem as the base is deep into the case. Other bullet types that leave more space in the 357 case may have position sensitive powder problems. Compare powder in to different positions, against the primer and in contact with the bullets base. This may happen with only some types of powder. Search www.thehighroad.org
