How does the hand affect revolver action
I've polished every surface in my 686. The only problem is that at the very last part of trigger travel there is some "grit". I think I've tracked is down to the hand. Am I nuts? it seems like it rubs at the very top of its travel in the slot that it travels in. What is my next move here? Thanks

If you're talking about double action, I noticed the same thing with my model 14. After an action job from a gunsmith who knows his way around a S&W, it's as smooth as can be.

As I recall, the hand puts pressure against the cylinder at the top of it's stroke and rotation. you have to mark it so you can see that last little bit of roughness.

Yes, double action. I noticed the friction at the top of the hands travel WITHOUT the cylinder in the gun. I can see(and feel!) it rubbing at the top of the slot. How to i eliminate it?

Tread lightly, the width of the hand is critical to the timing. Best to be done by someone who really know what they are doing.

Hard glass-like Arkansas stone is your friend here, but few thin enough to slip into that slot survive for very long. They *can* be shaped with a diamond stone. You will be impressed with the volume of rock flour produced removing even .01 of material.
As said, treat lightly. If ya got no Prussian Blue to track down the grindy spots, use a Sharpie pen. You will be removing and replacing a lot. Patience is also your friend. Start by breaking the corner edges of the hand with any Arkansas stone, and go easy. A shiny surface covered with black Sharpie can then tell you a lot about what is going on inside the frame slot.
If you don't have it slicked up in half an hour, call in an experienced friend or professional help.
