Beretta 92/M9 trigger pull affected by Magazine?
Hello All,
I have a strange issue with my Beretta 92. When the magazine is not inserted in the pistol, the trigger pull is just over 4lbs. If I insert the magazine (either magazine of the two that I have) the trigger pull weight goes up substantially.
I have removed and inserted the magazine with the slide off and can not see any obvious rubbing/interference with any of the trigger components. Therefore, I am perplexed!
Has anyone ever experienced this?
Regards,
Keith

Very common on the 1911.. In fact, rather than fight a losing battle with the trigger bow, I now, automatically clearance the magazines on every bullseye gun I do..No two magazines are the same dimension.

That crossed my mind. no Trigger Bow on the Beretta. Uses a Trigger Bar.
Thanks for weighing in

You got me curious, so I took mine apart and the only thing I can come up with is this...
Remove the slide.
Notice that if you use your finger you can pull upwards on the firing pin block lever(#64).
It has the ability to actually contact the rear part of the magazine(look at it with the magazine out and you will see the lower portion pivot out past the flush area of the magazine well).
Now remove the right side grip panel exposing the trigger bar(#27).
Magazine out, squeeze the trigger to drop the hammer(ride the hammer down so it does not damage anything) and look to see if that firing pin block lever is pivoted out past the magazine well.
If it is ,then the firing pin block lever is hitting the back of your magazine.
Most likely it is bent ?
Or something else is going on and you can see it with the grip panel removed.
I hope I explained this well enough.
It is the only information I can give you that I can see to cause this.

Thank you everyone for considering the issue I was having and offering your advice; I have found the issue!
The Beretta 92/M9 uses a sear spring that is much like an old clothes pin spring and has a long and a short end. My idiot gunsmith (ME) install the spring incorrectly. The long end should go into the receiver body and the short end against the sear body. installing it with the long end against the sear body was causing the end of the spring to press against the magazine body when the trigger was pulled. Here are some photos for reference.
Incorrect orientation:
Correct oreintation:

Keith, glad you found the problem.
You have to watch out for certain gunsmiths

Murphy's Law strikes again. I'm glad you found the problem and shared it with us. It'll go into my memory bank (at my age, I probably won't be able to retrieve the data, but I'll enter it).

I find myself approaching the same stage in: life. The older I get, the more flashlights and tape measures I amass. I can never remember where I leave them :-)

If your like me when I bring the new tape measure home and I decide on a safe place to keep it where I will remember it and I open that drawer only to discover 3 tape measures inside!!

I go to my wife's junk drawer. She has a ton of tape measures in there with our last name on them. And they are all like new.
