Recoil Spring Testing Tool?
So, What I'm thinking is just a steel rod stuck vertical in a stable base. Cut 1 inch graduations the length of the rod. Made a base weight that is 7 or 8 pounds. Beyond that use the weights off a trigger check set to increase the weight. Put the spring on the rod and then load weights until you get one inch of compression. Am I understanding the concept right? The idea is to quantitatively know what the spring in the gun is when it works good so that an exact duplicate spring can be produced when necessary.

Re: Recoil Spring Testing Tool?
Steve Bathje makes a recoil spring tester and a main spring tester. I have both and they work very well.

To craft a load, you need this tester

This effective recoil-spring (5 inch 1911) and mainspring tester is also available from Brownel's. It works.
The new, striker-fired, full-size, good-trigger Sig P320 has a similar recoil spring, but one will need to find the right amount of compression (distance) to test its recoil springs. Same thought applies to other springs.
