Extended front sight for Marvel Unit 1?
I have been using a Marvel Unit 1 for a couple years now with the kensight irons, and I love it (although i have a tough time mastering .22, my .45 scores are still better).
Right now I have one of my machinists at work cranking out a barrel weight for me, and was thinking about getting an extended front sight post to take advantage of the extra radius.
The question is this : do any of you folks know who still makes those extended front sight posts, especially one that would fit the marvel dovetail cut? I have been researching it and can't seem to find any info.
Thanks for the help!

That sounds like an item to search for on Ebay. Amazing what you can find on there sometimes.

There is a S&W 41 barrel with an extended front sight on Ebay right now. Probably not something that you want to buy just for the sight but that was just trying to find one using different key words.

off topic, but I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the barrel weight; I've figured that since I'm not using the muzzle brake on my Unit 1 the gun feels pretty muzzle-light, and a simple weight on the end that uses the same attachment method would help that feeling.

You can use a shaft collar in place of the muzzle brake for more weight.

That's what I did. I even cold blued it! It did require some blue Loctite on the screw.davekp wrote:rvlvrlvr wrote:SmokinNJokin wrote:Right now I have one of my machinists at work cranking out a barrel weight for me

Your machinist can make short work out of an extended front sight... Simple and easy to fabricate, at the lenght you want...

I remember seeing 5 inch slide guns with soldered on front sights on tangs much like the extended sight Bomar rib.

Yeah the extended bomar rib seems to be the only hit im coming up with.
The marvel has a very interesting dovetail - it is longways in the slide, instead of sideways like most.
I suppose I can attempt to have one machined into the barrel weight - that would be the simplest solution.

Great idea with the shaft sleeve.
For those who don't want to pay marvel $60, and don't have access to a machinist, the Climax RC-062 shaft coupling fits over the the unit 1's barrel (0.625"), is 2" long and adds 8 ounces of weight. They are $11 on amazon.
