What do you shoot for centerfire?
First topic message reminder :
I'm still in my first season of shooting bullseye, today I almost got to 2300. I'm shooting a S&W 41 for .22 and a Les Baer Concept III for both centerfire and .45. Recoil anticipation has been a big hurdle that I am getting better at overcoming especially since I've gone to 185 grain bullets.
I wish there were more options for centerfire target pistols in .32 and .38. I'd love to sell my 41 and buy a Pardini .22 & .32 combo but it's a bit pricey for me.

25 yarder coming up. I might shoot my 52-2 in CF, but I seem to have misplaced my Olympic Champions. Or is it Champion Olympics? I better make this match. I have missed every one so far this year due to work and family, and one K stone. Ouch.

I have a 38 super Race Gun built on a Caspian wide body frame. Work was done by a local bullseye smith. Some winter the open style dot may come off and a Ultra dot go on so I can try it in Bullseye. But I'll have to find a different load and the right spring to go with it.

I SHOOT A RRA 45 FOR CENTERFIRE. I DO HAVE A RRA 1911 IN 9MM THAT SHOOTS AN INCH AT 50YDS. BUT MY 45 SCORES WERE HIGHER. SO I MOTHBALLED THE 9MM. MY 45 SCORES ARE ALSO HIGHER THAN MY 22 SCORES . GO FIGURE.

Mine is a Clark "Recoil Master" (1994) built on a Colt Series 80 Mark IV with a 3-hole compensator and an "accuracy kit" with two Allen screws on the end of the dust cover to compensate for wear from use. 5.0 grains of Win 231 with the Zero 125 JHP Conical bullet works very well using a 9 lb recoil spring. Have also used 4.5 of WST with the same bullet. It works almost as well as as the 231 load. I plan to experiment further with WST and increase the powder amount to see how it goes. WST is again available while 231 isn't. I don't have to adjust my scope from 50 to 25 yards with these loads.rfmiller wrote:38Super!! wrote:To paraphrase Foghorn Leghorn, I am aghast . . .I say aghast, to find that not everyone shoots CF with either the 32 S&W Long or the 38 Super!

32 S&W Long (Walther GSP Expert and Pardini HP New Mechanical, both with Dave Wilson barrels) provide an almost endless, but enjoyable, search for the right load for 50 yards. Like the 32 ACP, the barrels will hold in the X-ring at 50 yards using a barrel tester. Making it work with the barrel in a gun is a different matter from a rest. Doing well while it is hanging off an arm is yet another challenge.
Both rounds are a lot of fun to shoot and have proven quite successful by several high master shooters.

I don't have a 38 super "yet" or I would try that also. I acquired some 38 super mags and asked Roddy Toyota to do a trigger job on my 9mm RO so the next step is to have him do a barrel swap and I can play with that caliber also. I posted earlier on this OP that I shoot a 952 for CF and for important matches that is still true. However, I don't limit myself to one pistol, caliber or style for CF. I should mention that what I do is for fun and is probably (certainly) not the right way to improve in this sport. The OP asked what I (everyone) shoot for CF and the answer is that in 2015 I fired every pistol in the picture for a CF match or portion of a match. Pistols sulk if you don't take them out of the safe once in awhile.
